Angus is a large, pathetic 14 year old whose thoughts are most often filled with the image of one Melissa Lefevre. Angus is shy and thinks that he has no chance of ever getting her. Being especially uncool, he is incredibly surprised (along with the rest of the school) that he is chosen to dance with her at the Winter Ball. The only one not surprised is the cool-kid who set him up to fail, but Angus best friend is going to help him win the heart of Melissa by developing a new look for him.

Angus is a film in which some might identify with...you have all those funissues as a child..angus addresses a few with respect. I could watch thisfilm over and over. The cast is great, not too over-acted ..just right.First time I ever wanted to hear what George C. Scott had to say..and nowImust watch again to hear him again..Point is this movie is a gentle lookatthe life of a kid with a few problems that only others seem to have.Ohh..and great soundtrack also!!

To that viewer from Austin Texas "WHAT DO YOU KNOW?", this is one of the most uplifting movies I have ever seen, it is one of my favorite movies of all time, when I read his review, I got disgusted, I had to speak up, I couldn't let him get away with comments like that, I highly reccomend Angus for kids with low self esteem, just say "screw em", Great movie!

I recently watched the movie "Angus". I compared the movie to the story, I found out that some of the movie that I watched was changed around, like in the story Angus had parents who were separated, and they were gay. The movie, there was only his mother and his grandfather. Angus's grandfather dies on his wedding day. My opinion of the story and the movie, both of them were a waste of time.

I never heard of "Angus" until it came on television. I watched it andloved the movie. I then went to Best Buy only to realize that Angus isnot sold on DVD and VHS is near impossible to get a hold of. Thats whenit hit me.Angus is a very under rated movie. It depicts a very real world of theyears of Highschool. The main character is Angus, hence the title. Anoverweight, fat kid who has dreams to leave his town, while constantlythinking about his Dream Girl. His grades are good enough to go to acollege out of the town to escape his outer demons. Demon, that beingthe star quarterback of the school and most popular kid, Rick, whopicks on him and his friend. His main good relationships are with hisMom, Grandfather, and best friend. The plot point of the movie comeswhen Angus is chosen (by Rick as a joke) to go to the dance with hisdream girl. Angus then must face his insecurities and step up. *At theend of the movie, Angus overcomes the troubles of high school andhumiliates Rick, to get a kiss from his dream girl. The movie is just brilliant, with good character depth on all thecharacters. Even the dream girl, admits to Angus that she has an eatingdisorder. It is a shame that this movie has not been released on DVDyet. But if it is on TV, check it out.

Firstly, I just want to say that that I did not dole out that scorelightly. This film was charming, funny, compassionate and really wellscripted. The story isn't ground breaking and the little IMDb summarysums it up nicely. I just thought the performances and characterisationwere excellent. I would have given it 10/10 but I felt James VanDerBeek as the popular but mean jock was a bit too two dimensional.Believe it or not the key reason I saw it was due to the clip of adance I saw on Film'96 with the Mazzy Star song 'Fade Into You' beingplayed. This song is exquisite, and they also used Love Spit Love's 'AmI right' in the movie. I go with my gut instinct a lot with films and Iwas not disappointed. I know this was a small release but I honestlythink if you trust me on this one you won't regret it. Angus is alovely gem of a film for anyone who wanted a movie were the boy with aheart of gold gets to have his day.

I am a 17-year-old girl and I am bulimic. This movie completely changed my life. I cried and cried and cried about how much it related to me. Thanks to the director for creating such a powerful movie!

This is such a wonderful movie. I saw it for the first time in Septemberofthis year and remember thinking that this is such a great movie why hadn'tIheard of it. It is a very touching story that made me laugh and made mecry. I hardly never cry at movies. This movie is special.

There is nothing really special about this movie that would make it standout from the hundreds of movies that deal with a fat kid in high school. Allthe predictable and unrealistic stuff happens (smart, stays mentally stable, and the hot girl ends up liking him). What kept me in the movie was thegenius decision of having George C. Scott in this movie. His protrayal ofthe grandfather was the kind of typical Scott display that gave the movieit's best scenes. As soon as he leaves the movie, the fate of this flickbeing in the forgotten category arrives. It's also kind of funny to seeVanDerBeek in an "evil" role before he goes into teenage soap opera stardom.I gave it a 4 out of 10.

This is a fantastic movie. I watched it back in the fall of 96 one day from the recommendation of a friend and loved it. Now all these years later and no DVD version?! Come on! I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Not that I dislike those other high school movie, but this one is sorealistic. Angus is overweight and he fines ways to deal with it. Hedoesn'ttry to lose the weight to make everyone like him. Charlie Talbert does agreat job, in the only thing that I've seen him in. The acting really isgreat and as a huge James Van Der Beek fan you get to see one of hisearlierfilms. George C. Scott and Kathy Bates are also at their best. I give itan8/10!

ANGUS RULES!!! it is my favorite movie of all time, and i watch it at least twice a month now (i've had it for three years). it never gets old and my friends have all grown to love it. know every quote from songs and movie by heart. Charlie Talbert does an excellent job playing a character that everyone has encountered, or is. basically, he's a fat, loner, who likes the most popular girl in school, and has his whole life. with his dopey and hilarious friend Troy (Chris Owen) he will try and face his fears, and his lifetime bully (the dude from dawson's creek, who does well in this movie, which is a hell of a lot better than dawson's creek). ANGUS IS A KILLER, FLY, DOPE, WICKED, BRUTAL, AMAZING, ETC. MOVIE AND MAD PROPS TO THE DIRECTOR AND CAST. kathy bates also did an excellent job in the movie, as well as angus's grandfather, george c. scott. a must-see and must-own movie. buy it now!!!!!!!!!!!

Simply put, if you grew up as `the fat kid' or just feeling like an outsider, then this movie will get to you. The first time watching this movie I could myself when I was the protagonist's age (about 15), the second time through I can see myself now as a twenty-two year old that still feels like `the fat kid.'

Angus was a good film. Nothing spectacular, but I liked it. What stands out most in my mind is a quote, by one of the greatest actors of all time, the late George C. Scott. "Always remember these words and live by them, screw 'em!" This quote changed my life, and I now live life by those very words. It really makes things a lot easier to deal with.

What great movie this was. It always surprises me when the powers that be in Hollywood decide not to put any marketing dollars into a movie so that it won't be a smashing box office hit like this one. This is a fantastic movie that I liken to Fast Time at Ridgemont High or The Breakfast Club. Amazing that it's not available on DVD. Further proof that it's not the general public that decides what movies are hits but rather the marketing/advertising wheel that is Hollywood.

Someone in Austin TX can see the truth! Indeed this is a good movie. Charlie Talbert and Chris Owen (look for him in October Sky) do a great job as Angus and Troy. The story is truly inspirational and, although slightly predictable, is still a great movie.BTW- the marching band song is "Am I Wrong?" by Love Spit Love. It's a very cool song, and it took me awhile to find it, too.

An underrated gem of a movie. I first came across Angus on a Saturday"withnothing else to do." What a pleasant surprise. Angus tries for nothingmore that being what he (it) is; just someone trying to live their lifeandfind some joy and accomplishment in it.Growing up is difficult, but the teen years have got to be the hardest;Angus endures what most of us have forgotten, though. A misfit who is ledbyhis heart, Angus just tries to be a good guy, but the world is cold andindifferent.By the time Peter Gabriel's "Washing of the Water" is playing, I'm usuallyeyeball deep in tears. Angus lays the king down, acknowledging anothermomentous change (something this movie handles quite well.)Loss spurs growth, and Angus gains confidence, taking the steps intomaturity that now seem inevitable: defiance, resistance, accpetance andindependence. We all find our own selves, and Angus finds his.George C. Scott and Kathy Bates should be recommendationenough.9 of 10, 9/10, Almost Perfect, Very Highly Recommended

To start with, the cast is great - Kathy Bates, George C. Scott and even a very young James Van Der Beek (of Dawson's Creek fame) along with a lot of lesser known but also talented performers. The story is about Angus, a kid who doesn't fit in as well as he'd like at school. His relationship with his grandfather is especially touching, and the whole movie is both poignant and a lot of fun. Highly recommended, particularly for an evening in with someone you love...

I thought this was one of the best movies I have ever seen. I was really proud of Angus for sticking up for himself at the ending of the movie and giving that bully a lesson of how it feels not to be popular. That bully needed to stop making fun of him and everybody else he was mean but he did play a great role. I recommend for those of you who hadn't seen it should rent it, it's a great movie.

ANGUS started out with good intentions and a good premise. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way, the script ran out of fresh ideas, and startedsticking in a lot of old Hollywood tripe. The leads (Kathy Bates, George C. Scott & Charlie Talbert) give it the oldcollege try, but can't overcome the fumbling script. The last half is sopredictable, it was almost unwatchable. Despite the razza-mattazz hypefromthe studios, ANGUS is a pretty mediocre outing.
