A stranger with no memory of his past stumbles into the hard desert town of Absolution. The only hint to his history is a mysterious shackle that encircles one wrist. What he discovers is that the people of Absolution dont welcome strangers, and nobody makes a move on its streets unless ordered to do so by the iron-fisted Colonel Dolarhyde (Ford). Its a town that lives in fear. But Absolution is about to experience fear it can scarcely comprehend as the desolate city is attacked by marauders from the sky. Screaming down with breathtaking velocity and blinding lights to abduct the helpless one by one, these monsters challenge everything the residents have ever known. Now, the stranger they rejected is their only hope for salvation. As this gunslinger slowly starts to remember who he is and where hes been...

Based on the graphic novel of the same name, Cowboys & Aliens takes usback to a post-Civil War west, similar to the west evoked in the glorydays of westerns, or for you readers out there who didn't receive ahealthy dose of John Wayne and John Ford, think Unforgiven. We meet aman with no memory (Daniel Craig), who we later find out is JakeLonergan, wanted for armed robbery and murder. He doesn't know hisname, where he came from, our how he ended up in the middle of thedesert with a large metal cuff on his wrist. He wanders into a nearbytown where he winds up getting into more trouble. He gets the attentionof the sheriff and the wealthiest man in town, Woodrow Dolarhyde(Harrison Ford). Ford knows Jake as the man who robbed his train. Hewants to hang him up, but he won't get his wish. The town is bombarded by a wave of alien spacecraft, the kind the throwbombs and suck up victims with lights and ropes. Six-shooters andWinchester rifles do nothing but make noise. It is here that we findout the purpose of the metal cuff on Jake's arm.If you've seen the trailer you can pretty much guess what the film isabout. One man, wanted for murder, is the key to the town's survivalagainst the alien invaders, as well as the key to getting back theabducted townsfolk. Simple enough. That's what I expected and that iswhat I received. The only part I didn't account for was how entertainedI was.I have a tendency to look past the surface of the screen, at thedialogue, camera shot selection, lighting effects, etc. Here I was moreconcerned about whether or not a Cowboys & Aliens toy gun like the oneCraig uses would be available in time for Christmas. The movie isfairly simple but the concept is, to put it bluntly, really cool!Think about it for a second. Put yourself in the wild west of the1870s. You're exiting a saloon and are about to mount your trustysteed. Then on the horizon a line of lights appear. Unlike anythingyou've seen before. Suddenly you are surrounded by lights, sounds, andexplosions the likes of which you never dreamed of. The weapon youcarry in your holster has been made useless. All you can do is try tosurvive. It's kind of frightening. These characters didn't even thinkabout creatures from another world. They have enough issues with theNatives of the country.Favreau does a fantastic job in recreating the old west and throwing itinto the middle of this utterly preposterous situation. The clothing, sets, and weapons hearken back to the days of Wyatt Earp and the O.K.Corral. Taking a genre as familiar as the west and placing it in thecontext of a science fiction story makes too much sense. Most sciencefiction stories have roots in the west. A hero versus a villain. Thethreat of outsiders. Foreign landscapes. Big shoot outs. The storylines cross over so much that they were bound to collide some day.The two leads of the film, Craig and Ford, or James Bond and IndianaJones, work hand in hand, feeding off each other's sharpness. Craig hasa cold, icy stare, like you don't know what he is going to do next, buthe knows exactly (perfectly describes his character). Ford plays angrybetter than most. His scowl is legendary, and puts it to plenty of gooduse here. The supporting cast of Sam Rockwell, Keith Carradine, OliviaWilde, and Adam Beach do a fine job. Nothing outstanding (except formaybe Rockwell), but still a decent job. It's not a perfect film even if it is a summer blockbuster. There werea few moments where I shook my head and asked why, but for the majorityI was entertained. Action junkies will certainly get their money'sworth, and best of all it comes at a 2-D price. No glasses required andno extra fee (though the price still stings a bit). It's War of theWorlds meets The Searchers. Not the best match, but one that you canhandle. Enjoy.

I like Daniel Craig, here, he is James Bond on a horse taking on aliens in a rather imaginative romp. the aliens, wot are a bit like the underground monster thingies in the remake of The Time machine, the one with "Mike" from Neighbours in it, have rather unimaginatively decided to steal all our gold through some sort of complex mining operation instead of finding an asteroid made of gold or something, or robbing Fort Knox or something like that, and they lassoo the townsfolk for some reason that I have forgotten and ..anyways, it all great fun, and I rather liked it.

This review is from: Cowboys & Aliens (Extended Version) (Amazon Instant Video) I rented this movie due to seeing a preview in theaters. I was expecting an exciting action movie and a terrible story line. Instead you got a mix of a love story, a tale of redemption, a tale of revenge, and a tale of the potential for humanity to be destroyed. And none of these stories were very good. On top of that there is about 30 minutes of action in the entire film. But if you love bad western and bad sci-fi, this might be the movie for you.

From now on, If they don't offer the Blu-ray disc alone at a reduced price, I will go back to buying DVD or passing completely on the movie. Yes, some people would want the DVD+Digital Copy, but why should I have to pay for something I don't want or need. I've already switched all our DVD players in the house for Blu-rays so I have no need for a DVD copy and I'm from old school and at this point, I don't want to mess with digital copies of movies. I'll make this the first movie that I will refuse to buy (combo). I'll just wait for my turn to get it from Netflix to watch. On another note, I don't want no part of 3D. It get's old fast and it seems to me, that they're concentrating more on something coming at you, then on the quality of the movie on the whole. Special effects are great, but you don't have to do them in 3D to make them great.

Hesitantly, I decided to watch this movie. I had just seen the AWFUL"Crystal Skull" movie (which I have reviewed), and I wasn't expectingthis movie to be much better. The movie is really not all that bad, butit isn't the overwhelming garbage that "Skull" was, either.Probably like most other postings (I am assuming, given the breakdownof reviews - I NEVER pre-read reviews before my own reviewing on IMDb),the movie has little that is original, and there are plenty of holesthat are troubling. However, I was wanting and willing to simply beentertained, and I (and my family) were at that. Favreau, director of"Iron Man," still kept true to his directing form, with action andpacing that held my attention (more or less). What is faulty is thestory, which seems to be missing about 45 minutes. I believe the mainproblem with the film is that some producer (why does Spielberg's namepop-up) said, "Favreau, keep it at 120 minutes! No one will watch a3-hour movie!" (I will add the line: "I don't want someone doing abetter version than my 'War of the Worlds' 'masterpiece'!" -sarcasm,you know) Oh, the agony, and with names like Craig (always wonderful)and Harrison (equally so), this movie should NEVER have had therestrictions placed upon it like it had. I firmly believe that theproblem with the movie stems from its producers, not the filmmakers perse. That said, the movie has Harrison doing a great Eastwood from"Unforgiven" impersonation (voice and face), Craig doing a sort of"Magnificent Seven" role ala Bond, and (even though I'm not intomulticulturalism) some more realistic portrayals of Indians than thestereotypes of cinematic lore. However, the plot merely replacesIndians with aliens and "cowboys" with "Americans" and falls back totwisting stereotypes around. Politics aside, why would aliens wantsomething as "rubbery" as gold? Where did all the aliens go who werefighting? Why were the aliens, who couldn't see well in the dark, sodarned great at slaughtering? How do you get a giant into a flying MiniCooper?Again, it is an entertaining film, if you just let it play. It's hasfaults (to be sure!), but I believe that some hands were "tied" so thatthe movie that one sees is not the intended one, but one that wasproduced for public consumption. I was disappointed to see talentwasted, but with Hollywood and finances the way they are nowadays, it'sno wonder.6 of 10. Just for entertainment value. If it weren't entertaining, it'dbe an easy 2 stars ------ E.

I was really looking forward to Cowboys & Aliens. There was no doubt inmy mind that I was going to enjoy it. Good ol' fashioned westerncrossed with some alien invasion. James Bond and Indiana Jones teamingup to whoop on some extraterrestrial elements and they got the manbehind those super-charged Iron Man movies? Hell, yeah! But then I sawit. Color me disappointed.Jake Lonergan (Craig) wakes up in the middle of the desert. He's got nomemory whatsoever. He doesn't know how he got there, where he camefrom, hell -- he doesn't even know his own name. He does know he's hurtand he's got some metal bracelet on his wrist. After the initial shockwears off, he rides to the nearest town on a horse he borrows from somevery unfriendly prospectors. There, he butts heads with Percy Dolarhyde(Dano), the son of wealthy (and pretty much town owner) Colonel WoodrowDolarhyde (Ford). While he's in the saloon drinking off his encounterwith Percy, a pretty young woman named Ella (Wilde) seems to know whohe is. Their conversation gets put on hold pretty quick, however, because the local sheriff (Carradine) spies a wanted poster with thestranger's mug on it and throws him into the hoosegow with Percy. Asthey're being transported to Santa Fe, an alien spaceship appears andstarts to snatch up some of the townsfolk. Among the taken are Percy, the sheriff and the saloon owner's wife. Divided by hatred, forcedtogether by a common enemy, Jake and Woodrow put together a posse totrack them down and get their people back.As I sat there and watched this movie, many things were going throughmy mind -- What happened to Jake? Why does Woodrow hate him so much? Why is he a wanted man? What the hell is that bracelet? Who is thewoman that knows him and what part does she play in all this? Why arethe aliens here? The entire movie is shrouded in mystery. I love a goodmystery as much as anybody, but this film just reeks of it. I built upsuch incredible ideas in my head about what it could all mean and howthey could put together this complex jigsaw puzzle and when thingsfinally get revealed, I was so let down by it's simplicity. This partof the movie had to be good. It was very important for thescreenwriters to have this aspect of the film work because it was weakon so many other levels. Because of all the things that was goingthrough my head for the entire 118 minutes of screen time, not once didI think, "Boy, this is exciting!" Clearly, Cowboys & Aliens has pacingissues. They even hide Harrison Ford from us for the first half hour ofthe film.I almost felt as if I was watching two entirely different movies. Onemovie has Daniel Craig with amnesia and sharing most of his screen timewith Olivia Wilde and the other movie has Harrison Ford walking hisposse through various terrains and trying to communicate with someNative American Indians via his translator (Beach). I wanted anun-buddy camaraderie between the two, yet they hardly shared any dialogtogether, let alone any screen time together. This is why the puzzlepieces needed to be a bit more elaborate. With only three actionsequences to speak of throughout the entire film, we need somethingmore thrown at us than Ella's big (and just plain dumb) reveal.I actually preferred seeing the supporting characters on screen morethan Craig, Ford or Wilde. The saloon owner (Rockwell), the sheriff'sgrandson, Emmett (Ringer) and the preacher (Brown) were all interestingcharacters and I think I cared more about them then what was happeningwith the leads. I cringed at the romantic implications between Craigand Wilde (what is it about life-threatening situations that makespeople want to stare all googly-eyed at each other and almost kiss?)and poor Harrison Ford was practically interrupted almost every time hewas actually trying to bring some witty repartee to the table. I wasvery disappointed, it could have been a lot of fun, a lot of laughs andintense and exciting as well. Instead, we got an all too boringwestern/sci-fi action/adventure film that spends too much of it'sscreen time masquerading around as a Sir Arthur Conan Doyle mysterynovel and taking itself way too seriously.More reviews at www.soveryterry.com Final Grade: C

Concept doesn't get much higher, "Cowboys and Aliens" just about coversit and leaves little to audience imagination, although a dog is alsoinvolved. In a summer brim full with remakes, prequels and sequels, it is arefreshing change to actually see a movie that is new or newish, thefilm is loosely based on a comic.Daniel Craig (No Name to start) wakes up in the Wild West circa 1873,looking craggy, sun-baked, wounded and confused. A large futuristicbracelet on his wrist, which he cannot remove despite repeated efforts,he swiftly deals to anyone that messes with him as he attempts toregain his memory.Stumbling into town, he encounters the usual Wild West characters. The sturdy doctor/priest (it's a small town), who graphically stitcheshis wounds, the local downtrodden saloon owner/doctor, (Sam Rockwell),with the improbably hot wife, a principled lawman and a weak, fecklessbully (Paul Dano) the son of the feared local head honcho, WoodrowDolarhyde (Harrison Ford).Throw in the otherworldly presence emanating from "Ella" (OliviaWilde), a cowgirl with piercing blue eyes. Add the advertised aliens, complete with grungy steam punk style spaceships and you have a curiousmix indeed, think "Firefly/Serenity" with a larger budget.Craig continues to impress, intense, brutal and looking every inch likehe damn well would hurt anyone getting in his laconic way, more thanadept with his sturdy bracelet, when it finally throbs into life.Mixing Aliens with Cowboys is a commercial risk, recent films daring touse the western genre have not all been successful (True Gritwithstanding), throw in a Alien "mashup" and what do you get? Actually,a lot more fun than some have led us to believe. Whilst undeniably notperfect, some effects are more LowFi rather than SciFi and somesupporting characterizations are paper thin, Dano and Rockwell getcriminally underused. Overall, perhaps the opportunity to play Cowboysand Indians with this cast was too good to pass up, even for greatactors with bit parts.Quite where a budget of US $163 Million went, is more of an indictmentof modern blockbuster film making than a criticism of this particularproject. However, there remains plenty of entertainment up on thescreen. The action and jump scares are more down and dirty than you mightexpect, kids with knives stabbing aliens in the heart, Alien torturechambers and characters being incinerated before your eyes, this iscertainly no "Wild Wild West".It is good to see Ford back in a summer movie, he gets some good linesbut the focus of the film clearly falls to Craig, who does notdisappoint.Yes, there are plot holes but again, this is Cowboys and Aliens in thesame film, reality expectations should wisely be left in the foyer. There is a high body count, every one is fair game, especiallydisposable and certificate friendly CGI Aliens who can be evisceratedat will without troubling the censors. Crucially, the dog is of coursekept safe at all times. The plot is thin - loved ones get captured by Aliens, posse try to getthem back and prevent even worse stuff happening. Interestingly theSaloon owner certainly seems fairly non plussed that his wife hasdisappeared.Good fun and any movie that dares to be at least mostly brand new withno built in audience and brand awareness, needs to be appreciated.Director John Faverau of Iron Man fame has done a fair job withworkmanlike direction, whether this finds an audience and we get to seemore, remains to be seen.Summary Does what it says on the tin.Indiana Jones and James Bond playing Cowboys and Indians, whilstfighting Aliens, what's not to like? Did you ever think you could equate sitting on the bowl with a movie? Hollywood does, and it has a pile of crap for you. It will shovel it out to you in concentrated measures. Aliens and Cowboys? Yeah, it could have worked, if you had an actual story... or convincing actors.Okay, I'll give a quick rip on the plot and then get back into gear tearing this thing apart. A cattle rancher haggardly played by a strained Harrison Ford bumps heads with a "cowboy" (a stupefied Daniel Craig)who looks like someone (a very original mean outlaw) but doesn't know who he is. Aliens ( seemingly devised by a ten year old child's mind)show up for no reason but to hoard of all things, gold.Yes, gold is important in the old west of course, so now we have a "plot". A wacked-out space girl is thrown in for good measure. She knows who's who and what's what, although her body wasn't sure if it could come back from something. These wooden characters are the best you'll ever see as they read their clunky lines with script in pocket. Oh and the action! These cowboys and stilted Indians fight aliens with the skill of a teen video gamer. But does it drag? The viewer can stare at a ranchers knife, rope, spoon, and know for sure this will prove the western genre exists in front of us. I don't think I've ever seen (in the modern era) material so empty and contrived than this gargantuan mess. It's hard to comprehend that somebody actually made the statement, "yes, release this into a theatre."

Everyone's preconceived notions are based on the name of the movie title itself. However, I found this movie to be a solid A. Of course you need to actually have a general liking for alien movies and old westerns. This was the perfect combination of both. Story line was a bit unfinished in some parts, acting was excellent: fans of Daniel Craig will definitely be satisfied!! Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde's acting are also top-notch. Definitely give this movie a shot if your interested in good acting, classic westerns, and an action-packed movie.

Daniel Craig, Harrison Ford and Olivia Wilde starin Jon Favreau's 2011 sci-fi western. A strangerseeks help from a woman and a colonel to fightaliens taking over the west. This is pretty good and Daniel and Harrison are great together. This dvd has nice picture and sound plus commentary and featurettes. I recommend this.

If you're a Western Steampunk fanatic then you will definitely want to watch this film. It has every bit of what you're looking for from the genre. Not having read the books, I was pleased with the plot development and characters. It's still a very mainstream movie so don't expect anything ground breaking.

What should happen when James Bond, Indiana Jones/Han Solo and the hotchick from "Tron" stumble onto a movie set under Jon Favreau's ("IronMan") direction? What about when cowboys collide with aliens in a filmadaptation of Scott Mitchell Rosenberg's graphic novel "Cowboys andAliens"? The answer is simple; Daniel Craig ("Casino Royale"), HarrisonFord ("Indiana Jones") and Olivia Wilde ("Tron: Legacy") should producea movie that is nothing short of spectacular. However, Favreau's genreclashing flick "Cowboys and Aliens" is everything it shouldn't havebeen; monotonously bland. It begins in the year 1875 when a namelessman (Craig) wakes up from a dazed sleep with no memory. The mysteriesof his past are closer than he thinks when he enters a small towncalled Absolution and gets in a scamper with renowned ColonelDolarhyde's (Ford) son Percy (Paul Dano, "Knight and Day"). Hisgoodwill is commended by a man named Doc (Sam Rockwell, "Iron Man 2")and a woman named Ella Swenson (Wilde). Colonel Dolarhyde hears of thecommotion and hastily returns to the town. Enter a group of alien shipsthat take half the town hostage including the Colonel's son and Doc'swife. A search party forms to bring the town back together and thenameless man joins when he realizes he has a special weapon enabled todestroy the aliens. Worthwhile action is few and far between after thefilm's opening bid and once the film passes its halfway point not evenCraig and Ford can save the film from abduction. The Good: Favreau abides by the most basic rule of filmmaking bycreating an inaugural sequence making the film seem like it is worththe time of the viewer (the hook). If the rest of the movie to followsuit with heroic Daniel Craig action, everything would have be how itshould have been. Needless to say, Craig brings his A-game alongsideHarrison Ford's grouchy performance, who makes a one man show into atwo-man show. Olivia Wilde subsequently turns this two-man show into athree-person show that avoids the typical Hollywood love story formula. How do you screw up a film about cowboys and aliens? First, create themost cliché action sequences that you can. Then, make the actionrepetitiously ordinary. Third, make the Native Americans in the film asstereotypically cheesy as possible. Lastly, do not put any effort intochoosing a supporting cast. Instead try and cast as many useless, faceless characters as possible so the audience can be uninterestedenough to nap while they are on screen. Oh and whatever you do, makesure to put more emphasis on a shoddy script instead of showcasing thebadassness of Craig and Ford and the sexiness of Wilde."Cowboys and Aliens" was either going to be a nerd's perfectentertaining mindless blockbuster, or a work of audience alienation. With the later being true, stay home, turn on the fourth "IndianaJones" followed by "Quantum of Solice" and feel infinitely morefulfilled.

Yes, the premise of this movie, obvious from the title, does seem a bitsilly. Don't get me wrong, I've always been a casual fan of thewestern, whose movie popularity has waned for years now. And I havealways loved science fiction. Star Trek, Star Wars, and space relatedscience fiction in particular has always fascinated me. But to combinethe genres sounded a little off. But, I watched it recently and was pleasantly reminded how much I likeDaniel Craig and Harrision Ford. Craig's Bond movies and Ford's IndianaJones movies are films I would watch pretty much anytime, anywhere. Andthe reason is that those movies are exciting and improbablyadventurous, but somehow made believable by the two fine actors. The same is true here. These guys are some of the best Hollywood has tooffer and it shows, once again making a strange sounding or improbableconcept come to life in a believable and enjoyable way.In my mind, the classic western has always had the grizzled and stoichero, standing alone, or almost alone, against some undeniable andintolerable evil. Well, we got that here.Science fiction often, overtly or subtly, involves contrasting theadvanced technology with the immature social and political knowledge ofthe times, or even some current social issue. This movie doesn't gooverboard with the special effects, nor does it get preachy. It's justgood, plain action and adventure.Besides the stars mentioned, there are some fine performances given bya variety of other actors, including Olivia Wilde, Walton Goggins, SamRockwell, and Noah Ringer (The Last Airbender). Olivia Wilde inparticular has that something special about her (like Cameron Diaz andBrittany Murphy). And yes, there is enough drama to break up the actiona little and help tie together the western and science fiction themes. This was enjoyable to watch and good enough to watch again sometime.

If you are anywhere between the ages of 8 and 16, you might like thisfilm since its the type of thing you likely watch all the time. If youare curious, think 'Super 8' with Cowboys instead of the 1980'scharacters. The script and plot could well have been written by a halfdozen or so Jr. High students in homeroom over the course of a week orso. The lead character is apparently the toughest super dude in the West tobegin with. Lucky the Cowboys had him in the right place at the righttime....and for the Indians. The big name actors cast must have had contract obligations to acceptthis job is all I can say. I cant say that I was even impressed by thespecial effects since every movie that come out now a days has the samelevel of effects as this.It was predictable for most all of the film with the exceptions of whenit made no sense at all. I'm even having trouble expressing how bad itwas.

I bought it anyway, well I got it about a week ago with it sitting on my shelf pissed off because of the Ultraviolet thing, I decided to open it and watch, well to my surprise it also contained a digital copy code for iTunes I was overjoyed, This has renewed my faith in Universal. ¨Whether you end up in Heaven or Hell isn't God's plan, it's your own.You just have to remember what it is.¨In Cowboys & Aliens Jon Favreau meshes two genres that I never thoughtI would see in a same movie: a Western and Sci-fi film involving analien invasion. The idea is pretty original considering we've seenseveral alien invasion films like Men in Black and Independence Day,but they all take place in big modern day cities. Cowboys & Aliens onthe other hand takes place in a small Arizona town during 1873 wherelocal cowboys have to unite with bandits and Indians in order to fightagainst these aliens. The idea which was based on an independent comicbook was great, but the film itself is mediocre. One of the mainproblems in my opinion is that there were too many people involved inthe adaptation of the screenplay. It's never a good sign when you havemore than five people writing the story. Jon Favreau proved in Iron Manthat he can direct great films, but this time he was missing an actorlike Robert Downey Jr. who can deliver great action scenes along withsome comic relief. Downey Jr. was actually Favreau's first choice toplay the lead role, but due to scheduling conflicts he had to go withDaniel Craig. Craig is a great action star (he was great in CasinoRoyale), but he doesn't have the charisma that Downey Jr. has and itcould've came handy in this role. Cowboys & Aliens had plenty of wellstaged action scenes, but the comedy was missing. I think some humorcould have worked better to let the audience know that this movieshould be taken lightly considering the title and the plot. I stillenjoyed the movie, but I've seen a lot better westerns and sci-fiflicks on their own. Jake Lonergan (Daniel Craig) wakes up near a small town in Arizona withno memory as to what has happened to him or who he is. He has a strangebracelet in his arm and a cut near his abdomen. Once he arrives in thesmall town he has a dispute with a young kid named Percy (Paul Dano)who thinks he can do what he wants because his father is a rich andimportant cattle man: Woodrow Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford). Woodrow usedto be a Colonel during the Civil War, but now he runs the town known asAbsolution. The local Sheriff (Keith Carradine) discovers that Jake isa wanted man and locks him in prison, but Woodrow wants his headbecause apparently Jake has stolen gold from him. Jake has no memory ofthis, but a young local woman named Ella (Olivia Wilde) seems to knowmore about him. It's during this dispute between the Colonel and theSheriff that the aliens attack the small town and abduct about half ofthe population, including Woodraw's son. The few cowboys that remaindecide it's best to settle their differences and unite in order to tryto find the aliens. Jake discovers that his bracelet works as apowerful weapon against the aliens and he can be their only hope. Asthe search begins, Jake begins remembering things about his past andpiecing things together with the help of Ella.Daniel Craig is a great actor, but I don't think this was the rightrole for him. Harrison Ford has been playing similar roles as a grumpyold man and I really think he can do a lot better. Olivia Wilde isbeautiful, but she doesn't have much to work with in the role she wasgiven. She pretty much stares at Jake all the time, and we get to seeher pretty eyes a lot, but that's about it. Sam Rockwell is verytalented and he does what he can with the small role he was given, butI insist a much more comedic approach should have been taken with thisfilm. More comedy, less action. The special effects were good, theaction scenes also pretty entertaining and the aliens looked cool, butthat is about it. I really like the cast, but they were just given poormaterial to work with. I still had a decent time with the film, but Iwas expecting a little more from Favreau and the boys. Cowboys & Aliensis fun, but I've enjoyed regular Westerns or Sci-Fi films a lot better. For example I would much rather prefer seeing True Grit, a straight upWestern, than this film. What I mean to say is that there are a lotbetter looking Westerns and Sci-Fi films on their own, and this filmwould have been a lot better if the meshed genres were better. I stillrecommend this movie, just don't go into it with great expectations. http://estebueno10.blogspot.com/

This review is from: Cowboys & Aliens (Extended Version) (Amazon Instant Video) My 11 year old son loved this movie. We rented it on amazon and he watched it over and over until it expired. I myself really enjoy a good western and so I enjoyed that aspect of the movie, but adding in the modern alien parts didn't quite ruin it for me. It was quite creative and worth a watch.

Let's be honest -- Jon Favreau can't direct.Like this flick, the Iron Man series sucks. The film starts out interesting but then descends into boringtriviality. And if you think Harrison Ford is really in this film, think again. He's role is a virtual truncated walk on money shot.Script writing is incomprehensible.Best part -- the big tooth guy from The Shield gets his front toothknocked out but 20 minutes later it's back in his head! The aliens areshown so huge they could never fit into their individual spaceships. How did that happen? Oh and then there's the bleeding hear liberalmessage delivered by the indians. And not one actually looks Indian! Can you get more predictive? And why do so many alien flicks have somesort of mother ship that when destroyed finishes of all the otheraliens? Why? Bad writing, that's why.Stay away. You've been warned.

A movie with this title that delivers zero amount of fun really has tobe considered a failure. The concept starts out fine but almost everyscene that goes by peels away an uncomfortable layer and the filmslowly degenerates in to an unpleasant time at the cinema. How did theyend up doing that to this concept? Both leads start off as genuinelyunlikable characters. As they move through the film, they slowly findredemption and win over the audience. By that time, as mentioned, themovie itself fizzles. The writers try and flesh out Harrison Ford'scharacter but fail. Olivia Wilde's character is truly a contrivance andreally makes no sense at all. The makers of this film in the absence offun jam in death and semi-horror in hopes that something sticks.Overall, this is a mess of a movie from a cast, director and producersthat really should know better.
