Better than you think

Surprisingly this film was better than I thought. Due to the reviewsonline, I nearly did not want to see this and probably would havewaited until the bluray version came out. I am glad to say this filmmet my expectations and was sure fun to watch.I chose to see the 2d version, after finding out that the movie wasactually filmed in 2d and later converted to 3d. After watching clashof the titans 3d and alice in wonderland 3d, I was definitely notfalling foul to this false economy.Anyway, back to the story. This is once again, a nice movie of a comicbook. Green Lantern, Hal is the earth super hero and defending theearth. The visuals are actually amazing and keeps to the nice expectations ofmost.I really don't want to spoil anyone's hope of missing this film. The film is good. It is not better than the new x-men film but it is'ntfar from being good. The only thing I would say would be that the film was not long enoughto concentrate on the main mission of the story. It started of fast, slowed down and finished to fast with a high. Also, for people who will be watching this, please hang around afterthe credits!

As far as super-hero movies go, it's perfect.

ONE LINE REVIEW: As far as super-hero movies go, it's perfect. RATING:See it in theaters (The rating system is one of "See it in theaters,""Wait for the Instant Download," "Don't waste your time")SPOILER FREEI was really surprised. I've seen Ryan Reynolds in a handful of moviesand he keeps getting better. He is, sadly for me, one of those actors Iwant to hate. He's always the smart-alecky boy-who-never grew up (see"Van Wilder"). But he keeps putting in the good performances (like "TheProposal") and I have to grudgingly accept him as a fine and diverseplayer."Green Lantern" starts out looking suspiciously like "Top Gun" with HalJordan (Ryan Reynolds) upstaging his ex-girlfriend-pilot and two dronefighter planes. Some of the same tactics were even used. Smart-aleckyHal Jordan gets chewed out (because he was supposed to show how greatthe drones were) and then is fired. Then he meets an alien who gives him a ring ... and we're off. The restof the film is a pretty standard super hero journey: Hal Jordan becomessuper hero Green Lantern: he plays with the ring, rejects its superpowers and the responsibilities it requires, and ultimately makes peacewith the power and his role in the universe. That's all prettystraightforward fare. But where the film really works is how Hal's human nature is unique inthe universe and is key to saving Earth and the universe. This is whatI really liked about the old Star Trek series. Exposing humanity'sgreatest weaknesses and 1) overcoming them or 2) turning them to ourgreatest advantage. I was so pleasantly surprised that I forgave minorerrors in continuity and unclear plot turns. The movie pits "will" against "fear". It is rare that Summer movieshave a moral or spiritual focus - a message you can take home. HalJordan exposes his fear (a weakness we all share) and shows how hecombats it to save his woman, his planet, and the universe. And so, wecan all go home feeling like Hal Jordan, because we all feel fear - andovercoming that fear is the super hero in each of us.

Oh, I guess it was all right - 8/10

To say that I'm giving "Green Lantern" an "8/10" says a lot coming fromthis viewer. As a reader of the original comics published by DC Comics,I had extraordinarily low expectations for this big-budget update ofthe Silver Age character who made his "current" debut in "Showcase #22"back in 1959 (there already was a character named the Green Lantern whoappeared back in 1940). Instead of a lengthy review, I'm just going tolist 21 points about this flick.1) "Green Lantern" is a much better film than I thought it would be.2) I was heavily against the casting of Ryan Reynolds as HalJordan/Green Lantern from the very get-go. I thought they could havefound someone so much better for the part. Reynolds is actually one ofmy least favorite actors of the moment, so you can understand myambivalence to his casting because I was sure he would doom thepicture.3) To his credit, Reynolds sells the part of test pilot Hal Jordanquite well. He looks just like the DC Comics golden boy and carries offthe part in good faith.4) Hal Jordan is selected by the dying alien Abin Sur to be the nextGreen Lantern, the first human to become one, and join the GreenLantern Corps, an intergalactic police force that patrols the galaxy asit attempts to maintain universal peace and stability.5) Each Green Lantern is given a "power ring," which is pretty much themost powerful weapon in the universe. With it, the user can createalmost anything out of his/her imagination. Apparently, its onlylimitations are the willpower of the user, and anything made of yellowwill render it powerless (due to an impurity in the ring itself).6) And since Jordan has certain daddy issues (each of the film's threemain characters each have daddy issues) - he witnessed his ace fighterpilot father burned to death in a plane crash as a youth - he has tolearn to overcome his fear if he is to become the Green Lanterncorpsman assigned to patrol the Earth sector.7) I feel that "Green Lantern" was $14 that was well spent.8) Martin Campbell has directed a nice and shiny enough adaptation of abeloved DC Comics superhero, that will certainly fill the void left byMarvel Comics (DC's rival) adaptations "X-Men: First Class" and "Thor,"and to hold off audiences until the arrival of "Captain America" in afew weeks.9) Here is where it gets personal for a little bit.10) I'm mostly a fan of Marvel Comics characters; Spider-Man is myfavorite superhero of all time, followed very closely by the X-Men.11) In the DC camp, however, Batman is my favorite character, followedby Green Lantern (Hal Jordan). John Stewart - the first black GreenLantern corpsman and who first appeared in "Green Lantern/Green Arrow#87" (volume two) - is my personal favorite Green Lantern.12) The movie itself had a pretty pointless and boring opening andclosing narration by actor Geoffrey Rush, one of the film's biggestweaknesses (but it did have a cosmic opening credits sequence).13) In the Green Lantern comics, there are actually many Green Lanterncharacters, each of whom is prominent in their own right (such asKilowog, Tomar-Re and Sinestro - played here by Mark Strong - thelatter of whom in the original comics eventually becomes the GreenLantern Corps' greatest enemy).14) These characters are fairly short-changed in this film and onlyappear in a handful of scenes throughout the picture, as do thefounders of the Green Lantern Corps, the gnome-like humanoidextraterrestrials the Guardians of the Universe.15) Hector Hammond (a screaming-mad Peter Sarsgaard) also seemsunder-used here, and is understated and loony from the get-go, and thusgoes into a murderous rage after becoming infected with the "yellowelement" (from primary movie villain Parallax) while inspecting theremains of Abin Sur for the U.S. government and his condescendingpolitician father (Tim Robbins). He eventually becomes a madman withtelekinetic powers, which he uses to get revenge on his father, HalJordan, and their mutual love interest Carol Ferris (Blake Lively). And, boy, does Hammond do a lot of screaming in this picture; he's gotsuch a set of pipes on him, it really seems to be the one thing he'sconsistently good at in this during this film's 105-minute runningtime.16) I thought Parallax was actually quite frightening here; hisappearance in this flick brought back memories of the planet-eatingGalactus from Marvel's "Fantastic Four" title.17) I think we know who the next movie's villain is going to be (if"Green Lantern" succeeds enough to spawn a potential franchise), if theformation of a yellow power ring in the middle of the picture didn'tclue us in as to who it is probably is.18) I think Ryan Reynolds did do a good job here, even if most of hisattempts at humor fail miserably. In his stead, however, it is Jordan'slove interest, Blake Lively's Carol Ferris, who seems to get the bestjoke in the middle of the flick after she accidentally discovers histrue identity and he takes her on an impromptu "Superman"-inspired dateatop an airport traffic-control tower.19) Martin Campell, who also directed by personal favorite "James Bond"feature "GoldenEye" (1995), did a good job directing this flick, evenif it's all just flash and glitter, and we've become so used to thesuperhero-origin flick in 2011 - since there is no shortage ofsuperhero flicks coming out of Hollywood these days.20) I was proved wrong by this movie because I thought it was good, andreally nothing more. Ryan Reynolds proved me wrong; he's an effectiveand charming Hal Jordan/Green Lantern.21) "Green Lantern" = 8/10 from this viewer.

Green Lantern is worthy!

This review is from: Green Lantern (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) (DVD) I just finished watching GREEN LANTERN in the theatre. I'm not gonna review the film here as it has drawn enough share of critics, both positive & negative already. All I'm gonna say is that it succeeds in being wildly entertaining with regards to both action & sci-fi theatrics. The human-level story-telling could use a bit of a brush-up is all I could think of as I left the cinema. I'm looking 4ward 2 the DVD release. Also am optimistic of a sequel pitting Hal against Sinestro tho I hope they take their time with that narrative not RUSH head-first into it.If there is anything of this movie 2 B negative & have hatred of here (as prior reviewers seemed 2 indicate), it should B directed at WarnerBros for putting out a trailer which had ALREADY given out WAY TOO MUCH of the story BEFORE it was even released. Perhaps(???)it mite have done & grossed better had they used a minimal 1min trailer (aka 1978's SUPERMAN, both teaser & theatrical)that didn't give away the plot thus saving enough suspense 4 the audience. Let's hope they (studio dumbasses reading this!) do a BETTER/smarter job with the sequel in that dept, 4 starters!

The Green Lantern goes by at a fast pace.

Here we go again, they release a fun super hero flick and everybodycomplains about wanting a darker film, critics bash it relentlessly andone is left feeling almost bad if they enjoyed it. I am such a person,I found this movie to be a fun summer film featuring a comic bookhero..comics the form of literature aimed at kids, but for some reasonpeople want it to be dark and disturbing to the highest degree. I beginto feel we have to many darker image people out there, this isevidenced by the fact that I read a review here for Kung Fu Panda 2 andthe reviewer said he liked it better than the first because it wasdarker, because hey a movie about a freaking giant panda that performsmartial arts should be dark! eyes rolling. The critics I am guessinghate it because Warner Bros forgot to mail them their check. Yeah Isaid it, how else to you explain a film series like Twilight gettingbetter and better reviews as it progresses and its movies grossing moremoney hence more money to bribe cause at the film's core is a gal thathas all the charisma of paper, a dude whose other films get releaseddirectly to DVD and a dude who is simply a slab of beef. This film doesdeserve some criticism, I was not fully impressed with it myself andfeel it could have been better, but it is not the end all worst comicmovie of all time. Neither is "Batman and Robin", like a lot of peoplesay, I give the crown to that Captain America movie of 1990. A filmfeaturing a man with a gal going one place to the next for 80 percentof the movie. Seriously, one review seemed to put down the film simplybased on the Green Lantern's powers at one point criticizing the sizeof the fist he uses to take out the people attacking him. The film hasa creature being awoken and escaping its prison, the creature is calledParallex. This creature devours the inhabitants of planets feasting ontheir fear. It goes after the green lantern who imprisoned him, a beingnamed Abin Sur. This battle is brief, but so has the feel of a comicbook to me. He is wounded and must pass on his ring, he makes it toEarth and a test pilot named Hal Jordan has the ring passed to him. Hemust learn how to use the powers of the ring in time to fend off thethreat of Parallex and must battle a man who ends up infected by thisevil creature when examining Abin Sur's body. The effects are rathergood, I liked the planet of the Green Lantern's. The final battle wasalso enjoyable. I like Ryan Reynolds and I thought he did a good job asHal Jordan, however, if you do not like Ryan you will most likely notenjoy this film. Of course, not liking the movie for this reason ismuch better than the it isn't dark enough reason. Seriously, not allsuper heroes are Batman, as he should be portrayed in a more dark andserious tone, Green Lantern is not one in my opinion and this is onlymy opinion. I chuckled during the scene when he is the Lantern checkingup on his childhood friend and love. Now on to the negatives, of whichthis film has a few. In fact, I was close to rating this one a six, butthought it went by to fast and entertained me to much for a six, but acouple of the flaws are great. One is something I absolutely agree withthe one critic who mainly bashed the Lantern's powers and that is thecharacter of Hector Hammond the human villain of the piece. Not sayingPeter Sarsgaard did a bad job, in fact he did a good job portraying anobviously lonely man whom has few friends, his dad wishes he was Haland is in love with a girl he can never have. The problem is how do youpull against a man like this? I have never felt so bad for a villain inmy life, add to that they make him grow more and more deformed until heis finally in a wheel chair for the final battle. The man also getsupset because his father pulled strings for him, I am guessing we asAmericans are supposed to dislike him for this reason cause in ourcountry it is not what you know, but who, but this only made mesympathize with him more. Every scene he is in I feel pity. I mean Ican understand where a villain like Magneto is coming from, but I donot feel sorry for him because his powers are great and he commandsgreat respect even from his enemies, the guy here at one point cries inpain in his first battle with the Lantern and I felt terrible for him.You are supposed to go "Yes!" when the hero hits the bad guy, not "poorguy". Another problem is the fact that the Lantern's powers do not workon yellow is never really looked at. This is a major thing in thecomics and all the cartoons I have ever seen, here it is not reallytouched on all that much except that yellow is the color of fear andsuch. The Lantern's training session seemed to come out of nowhere andhis first appearance should have been a bit more spectacular as well. However, despite these gripes overall I enjoyed the movie more thanmost people apparently and I am saddened by the fact that this film isnot going to do enough to warrant a sequel in all likelihood meaning Iwill never get to see Hal Jordan fight the man everyone associates asbeing his greatest adversary.

Finally saw what all the crying critics were crying about.

Looks cool. Sounds cool. The script is BEYOND weak. Moments seemforced. Reynolds is a perfect Hal Jordan however. I blame thedirector/producers for the mess they made here. What purpose didBrainiac serve? NONE. A wasted villain. Jordan's training in Oa wasshorter than the stack of stars people gave the movie. The movie isredeemed at the very end in the final boss battle. In that scene, I wasfinally roused by the character, the stakes were established, theaction was terrific. I don't want to spoil it, but believe me, the last5 minutes are the best moments in the film, IMO. For #2, if that happens, the direction and script have got to besharper than this was. With a legion of nerds at the internet'sfingertips, there is no excuse for half-assed money grabs.

Not Bad .....Not Great, but Not Bad

I am a huge fan of D.C. Comics. I was excited to learned last yearlearn that this movie was being made. I waited a year in anticipationfor this film. ...AND THEN i SAW IT AND ...... DENKKK! ! ! !It isn't horrible, but it could've and should've been soooo muchbetter. First off, the orchestral music soundtrack stinks...Where isJohn Williams or Jerry Goldsmith when you need them) 2nd, It is tooshort...I would have liked to seen the Green Lantern doing random stuffsuch as stopping a bank robbery, putting out a fire, stopping someonefrom going over a waterfall in a canoe...stuff like that. But we don'tget it. We have the one scene where he reveals himself after he saves ahelicopter from crashing...and then he doesn't do anything else untilhe fights Parallax. 3RD, we don't really get to know the villain, wesee him kill three alien astronauts at the beginning of the film, andlittle else. 4th, Way too much Computer Animation.....don't need to saymorebest superhero movies ever made Superman(1978) Superman II(1981)Spiderman(2002) Spiderman 2(2004)The Dark Night(2008) Ironman(2008)Watchmen(2009)Worst Superhero movies ever made Supergirl(1984) Superman IV:The Questfor Peace(1987) Batman & Robin(1997) Hulk(2003)Green Lantern falls in that category of Good but not great.likeSpiderman 3(2007) Fantastic 4(2005)Incredible Hulk(2008)

The haters have no clue (possible spoilers)

I have just been amazed at all the pre-premiere hatred of this movie. After seeing the movie, I am even more amazed. This is not Macbeth. It doesn't pretend to be written by Shakespeareor, for that case, even Faulkner. It is simply a comic book story, brought to the big screen. And it is well done. Some things were a little rushed. Hector was killed off too early, andwas a wasted character, as was Dr. Waller. Senator Hammond? mmeehh!Ryan Reynolds was good when he was being the goof ball trying to growup. Chris Pine, would have been more well-rounded in the character. However, I think Reynolds could well grow into the role.I am looking forward to the next installment, I want to see thecontinued development of the yellow ring/Sinestro storyline. As for you troll haters: Grow up.

A cracked lantern

2011 will probably be best remembered as the year when Marvel superheroes once again stormed the silver screen and further built upon their wildly successful fictional universe. In a way, it's easy to feel a little sad for DC, who, aside from Batman, hasn't had much luck with their own superheroes as of late. Thus, "Green Lantern" represents their own foray into the superhero film. But while a lot of time and effort was obviously put into the film, the finished product doesn't quite live up to it's full potential."Green Lantern" follows the story of Hal Jordon, test pilot extraordinaire, who excels at taking risks and doing the things no on else will. It's this daredevil attitude that leads him to a mysterious power ring that recruits him into the intergalactic peace keepers known as the Green Lantern Corps, who's members are said to be above fear. But while he has gained an extraordinary gift and an awesome responsibility, Hal must now deal not only with the threat of an intergalactic being who could destroy everything he holds dear, but also his own failings, which hold him back from being truly great. When you really look at it, "Green Lantern" is a typical superhero origin film, with great visuals, some nifty action scenes, a healthy dose of humor, and a good message about learning to overcome fear. I also really liked the scenes on Oa, where Hal learns about the corps, and starts training to become one, which are easily the most entertaining parts of the film. But while all the elements for a great movie are present, "Green Lantern" feels like a puzzle where all the pieces don't quite fit together. Among these are secondary villain Hector Hammond, who has an interesting character arc, but is essentially a placeholder for the main bad guy, and ultimately feels unnecessary. There's also a light love story, but Hal's girlfriend ultimately contributes little to the story. But what I felt to be the weakest element of the film lay in Hal working to overcome his own personal doubts, because he can't seem to make up his mind about what he's most afraid of (his father's death, or his insecurity about commitment). By the time the final battle began, I wasn't emotionally interested because it didn't feel like Hal had overcome a crippling personal problem. He just felt like a guy in a green costume with magical powers.Overall, "Green Lantern" is strong in terms of visuals and humor (Hal's first attempt at reciting the famous oath is quite amusing, as are the jokes about his facemask), and the world of the Green Lanterns themselves is fascinating, but with the emotional backbone of the movie compromised, everything else feels fragmented. There are parts that definitely work, but had the emotional core had been smoothed out and clarified a bit more, "Green Lantern" could have been a lot better then it is.

"Digital" copy sale was misleading but movie is GREAT

This review is from: Green Lantern (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray) I am typing along with many others that this was the first --and probably LAST-- movie I buy that has this ultraviolet mess (my computer is still stuck). Like another reviewer, I'm pretty sure I pre-ordered a THREE DISC SET and I don't remember it stating "ultraviolet" digital copy. Either way, this is NOT what was promised. I would send it back but have already opened it and want to keep the blu ray because the movie was really good. So I recommend that people just stick with the individual blu ray or the dvd. Actual movie=5 starsThis version=2 stars

That was better than the Green Lantern I was waiting for!

It's always hard to adapt a superhero character from comic book to movie. People may differ in opinion, but as for me I found this movie wonderful! I even preferred Ryan Reynold's Hal Jordan from the more serious comic character. I think he was fit for the role, he gave life, fun & wit to the character, and he presented adequately the inner personal turmoils of carrying the responsibility, although doing this in a fun way.I liked also to special effects, having watched this movie at the theater in 3D. The plot was multi-thread. All in all a very good, fun movie which I enjoyed, being a comic book reader since my childhood. And yes, I would by the DVD when it gets released!

Middle of the road with some plot holes

Film was mishandled from go. From screenwriters, directors and actorsdown through to special effects, we have experienced individuals whohave previously produced some quality work (of varying degrees). Howthey pulled off this hot mess is a mystery. Poor script writing.Plot – holes abound. How does Abin-Sur, a great powerful Lantern, getmortally wounded in a spaceship crash? Let's put aside the reality thathe can fly through space like other Lanterns in a protective greenball. If the ship is malfunctioning or attacked, can't he create agiant green pillow to crash into or use green energy to heal? Doesn'the have a suit that helps to protect from injury? No signaling to theimmortals or other 6k lanterns for help? Hal buried Abin? With what shovel or jackhammer did he dig the rockyground? And it took that long for the army/police to get to the crashsite??? Only UFO that has hit earth in a flaming ball and there wastime to dig a grave and hangout sitting on the rocks next to the crashsite? In the span of 3 days or a week at best, Hal becomes a superhero, masters the power of will that is streamed from the entire universe andfilters through as a power from his ring, learns to fly and fight, getsthe girl, kills the eternal monster Parallax that has been around sincethe time of the other immortals and could not be killed but just bound(even with an army of 6k other lanterns who have thousands of yearsexperience). Reminder to self: Send memo to Batman, Superman,Spiderman, Thor, Captain America, Iron Man, and others that they arehideous underachievers who have taken way too long to develop skillsand evolve emotionally. Add self to memo list.Reynolds – decent performance but not really noteworthy. Lively – bad, wooden and NO chemistry. In real life these two actors are supposed tobe together. All I keep thinking is this they must have some of themost boring sex ever.Sarsgaard – above average but a bit on the cheesy side; I am going toattribute this to the script and directing because usually this guy isa winner.Mark Strong as Sinestro – scene stealer of the movie and mostinteresting character. Wished there was more of him and his back story.Ending – lame and anticlimactic.Final note – There's a lot of dislike for the superhero outfit andcomplaints because it is CGI…I liked it and didn't mind CGI as analternate to costuming.

Better than the critics give it credit for.

I know this movie has been critically panned for the most part but Ifound it very entertaining and after all isn't that what we go seemovies for in the first place. Most of you know the story. Talented but cocky and irresponsible testpilot Hal Jordan is chosen by a dying alien to assume his role as thissectors protector by giving him a power ring and a batter to charge itwith. To me what carries this movie is one thing. The charisma and likabilityof Ryan Reynolds in the role of Green Lantern. He brings just the rightamount of naivete and boyish charm to the role. I never lost interestin what happened to him during the entire movie.Oh, there are a few nitpicks with it. I though Blake Lively as a testpilot was comical. She flies a fighter plane in one scene and thenspends the rest of the movie in tighter and shorter dresses. The castis excellent but not given much to do. Tim Robbins as the typicaldirtbag senator and Angela Bassett as a government scientist are underutilized in my opinion. Also I thought they could have given GreenLantern better "constructs" as the other Green Lanterns call them. Imean you have all the power your imagination can come up with at yourcommand and all you can come up with are machine guns, race cars andplanes.Oh well I said just a few nitpicks. This movie is very entertaining andcharming so don't listen to the critics.

Green Lantern (2011)

This review is from: Green Lantern (+ UltraViolet Digital Copy) (DVD) I wonder when Hollywood is going to screw up 'Gone With the wind" there batting almost 100% with remaking movies from old story's . They did do a good job on superman I must admit and Dick Tracy .I wonder if they had ever read the history of the green lantern ?The Green Lantern is the shared primary alias of several fictional characters, super heroes appearing in comic books published by DC Comics. The first Green Lantern (Alan Scott) was created by writer Bill Finger and artist Martin Nodell in All-American Comics #16 (July 1940). lets repeat that date 1940!!! why do they have to change things The ring of the Golden Age Green Lantern (Alan Scott) is magically powered.Oh well who cares Hollywood doesn't, but thought I would give my two cents. The special effects where ok but I do think they are getting cared away with them. I'll give this movie two stars..next time try not to change the story make the way it was written , if you would have done this I could have given it four stars and I think you would have gotten a lot better reviews . Excellent adaptation

Don't listen to the negative remarks. This is a great movie. I've beena long time Green Lantern fan and the story line is a great adaptationfrom the comics. Yeah there are little things about the acting andwriting, but they are overshadowed by the excellent story. This movieis well worth your time and money. The origins and background are spoton. I was glad the movie was built around the Green Lantern Corp. It isimportant to know that there is more than one Green Lantern. They did areally good job of showing Hal's personality. My wife even liked thismovie. There is not dull moment. The momentum of the story keeps youfrom being bored.

A very good start to the Green Lantern story

I believe this to be a great start to the Green Lantern story. Althoughit wasn't perfect, it left hope for what the story and series willbecome. I enjoyed the way the constructs were shown and the flyingeffects with the green glow that have always been GL symbols. Thechoice of actors to play each character in the movie seemed to be "spoton". Ryan Reynolds as Hal Jordan...while at first I didn't get it...Irealized after seeing Wolverine that he was a perfect choice, andwatching the movie only backed it up. Mark Strong as Sinestro looks wasanother perfect choice. He air of "better than thou" comes offbrilliantly. After seeing the movie and realizing that this seems only to be thebeginning, I can't tell you how excited I am to hear about the nextinstallment and the beginning of the "Sinestro Corp".

Green Lantern

They have cropped this movie from its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio, by cutting off the sides and releasing it as 1.77:1 for 16x9 tvs. This is wrong. I liked the movie, but I won't buy the DVD or Blu-ray version that is chopped up by such a method. Didn't we object to the 4x3 pan and scan which cut off so much of the movie, and we are back to this. They have done the same to X-men and Thor and so many other new releases. If you don't see it in the theatre, you will never see the entire full scope of the movie. People should protest.

Terrible Script, Good Characters- Verdict: FIRE THE SCRIPT WRITERS!

For a comic book movie, Green Lantern had the potential to be great. Ifthe writers of the movie even watched the animated movie First Flight, they would've been able to come up with a better script than what theydid. I think the cast did the best that they could with the corny linesand terrible writing.Ryan Reynolds was believable as Hal Jordan, Blake Lively wasexceptional in her role (which primarily involved looking pretty whichshe is good at) and Mark Strong as Sinestro was flawless. Though Ithoroughly disliked what the writers did to this movie, I do hope theGL series isn't written off. There is still enough in the story ofGreen Lantern for a sequel, but for the love of Oa the old scriptwriters need to go and a brand new team needs to bring something to thetable. Mark Strong is an acting powerhouse and as we have seen in theDark Knight, it is the villain and not the hero that makes anexceptional comic book movie! Sinestro has to do for GL what the Jokerdid for Batman! Thats my 2 cents

Green Lantern: The Average Joe of the Superhero Movies

They say that if you've seen one superhero movie, you've seen them all. That's not entirely true, but if every superhero movie were like GreenLantern, then it would be true. Green Lantern is your typical superheromovie, so if you've seen quite a few superhero movies (like I have),you'll know what's ahead. This is the problem with Green Lantern, it'stoo predictable and does nothing new to make it stand out from thecrowd. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, but it's not a goodthing either. There are 3 good things in this movie. One, PeterSarsgaard as Hector Hammond is delightfully hammy and fun to watch. Two, the SFX are cool and what they do with the Green Lantern ring isalso cool, and Parallax's design suits its evilness. Third, the fightbetween Hal and Parallax is the best scene in the movie. Other thanthose things, it's average. If you've never seen a superhero movieand/or are a Green Lantern fan, this movie is worth seeing. Everyoneelse should see X-Men: First Class.
