Men Pregnant?!?

This review is from: Junior (DVD) This is a fun movie, I enjoy the newer idea for a movie. Arnold does a great job being a pregnant woman. Then following the story it becomes more involved and entertaining.

While initially amusing, it gets to be an old joke fairly quickly.

Light-Hearted & Funny

I wasn't disappointed when watching this movie because it was just as I'd hoped it would be, cute, funny and fun to watch over and over. When I need a pick-me-up, this movie puts a smile on my face every time.

Finally, A Man Gets it!

I have never laughed & cried so hard at the same time. Finally, a manpregnant. And having it Arnold playing this part was wonderful. He rantheemotional and physical gammet and he did it beautifully. As a woman whohada horribly difficult pregnancy and constantly wanted to smack men up theside of the head when they make comments about how easy we have it, Ifinally felt that someone got it.Danny DeVito and Arnold Schwarzenegger pair up as a Doctor (OBGYN) and aResearch Scientist who are trying to come up with a formula to help womenwith difficult pregnancies to have a better chance of carrying through.(Aworthy effort in itself) They are turned down by the FDA for a humantestingand the University revokes their funding. (TYPICAL) In a totally bold, crazyand plot driving move, Devito talks Arnold into trying the formula onhimself. But where to get the donor egg. (Enter Emily Thompson as afellowDr/Researcher who has cryogenically frozen eggs). And the humor just getsfunnier from here.Arnold suddenly is going through the mood swings, the nausea, the nipplesitching and everything else that goes with a "WOMAN" being pregnant. Andhedoesn't pander or downplay any of it. He was down right beautiful in thepart.I highly recommend this to any woman who is, will be or has beenpregnant. You will laugh and cry and totally enjoy this movie. And guys, if youdon'tget it, well, you never have when we were the pregnant ones, so whyshouldyou get this portrayal??? Give it a shot, you may learn what realstrengthswomen have.

Kind of dumb but yet... funny.

I've seen this movie about 4 times in the last two days, and i have tosay i loved it. It has hilarious dialogue, and the fact that it'sArnold who's the one who gets pregnant makes it even more funny! Butthe overall story of this movie is pretty stupid. The whole "man gets pregnant and goes through what women go through,"has been around forever. it's really the way they set it up and gothrough with it that makes it good or not. Junior, had it's reallyfunny moments like when Alix says, "My nipples are very sensitive." or"Does my body disgust you?" but a lot of the movie was pretty bad. And i still feel bad for that poor little girl who got named Junior. :P

Cute, amusing, but never hilarious.

Not that amuzing

The tagline is not good.Who wants to see a guy pregnant? This is a quietly not so amusing film which I enjoyed more than Iexpected. While Schwarzenegger is the "star" of the movie, this is really deVito's film. He dominates every scene he is in, and maintains a maniccharacter who actually shows some change as the film progresses withoutlosing the basic energy of his persona.I'm not a big fan of pointless comedies.4 hours in a casino = 6 months of passive smoking. At least that'strue. While the plot is a little tenuous at times and there are only one ortwo real belly laughs I enjoyed the film, even on the small screen.Worth watching, but probably not worth buying.

CLEVER

As a clever business man, Arnold knows he must vary his products to stay on top. THis is one of the results of this strategy. It's a good movie, no compromises, a few laughs, a good afternoon program.

Arnold, DeVito and Emma at their Funniest

As 'ridiculous' as the concept is, ignoring all the scientificinaccuracies, 'Junior' is a lot of fun. What would happen if men couldcarry babies in their 'womb'? Well you might want to try 'Junior'.Obviously the film wasn't meant to be taken seriously and that's howdirector Ivan Reitman treats this. Hats off to Schwarzenneger, who hadestablished himself as the action hero, for taking up the challenge. Hedoes a great job. His abilities in comedy have been underrated and'Junior' just gave him that right kind of boost. And when you havepeople like Danny Devito, Emma Thompson and Pamela Reed then you cancertainly expect to laugh. Thompson's comic flair also remainsunderrated and she is hilarious here without having to resort to theformulaic comedic tactics. In terms of writing, there are many funnydialogues that allow the scenes tickle. Even the more 'intense'sequences are loaded with funny dialogue (for example the sequencewhere Alex confronts Diana about Junior). 'Junior' is a movie that oncecan easily enjoy with the family. It was fun to revisit after years.

Tough Call !!!

Its weird but at the same time funny. So its hard to say whether thismoviestinks or its good. So its a tough call. Its got a good set of actors, itsgot an okay story line, but its just plain WEIRD ! I think it depends ontheperson who is watching it. If their idea of fun was watching ArnoldSchwarzenegger go through morning sickness then they would love the filmbutotherwise people might just hate it to bits.

Are you sure it's not an insult for pregant women ?

Junior is a great casting film but the storyline is awful ! I love Danny Devito I have seen most of his movies ,but in my opinon this movie is a insult for pregant women that is .It shows kids cross dressing and sexual harrassment ,a pregant man is a insult I mean just think of that was a real fertily drug they would be selling like crazy ! This movie is ok but is a insult ? You be the judge .

Has its problems, but I enjoyed it....

In summing up, this movie is good but it isn't great. It does have itsfaults, but I found it surprisingly enjoyable. Starting with itsproblems, the film is a little too long, Pamela Reed is very underusedwhich is a shame as I like her a lot as an actress and comedienne andthere are one or two predictable parts. On the plus side, it is verywell made with great cinematography and scenery, and the music is verynice. The pacing and direction are both very slick, and while Junior isbasically very one-joke, there were some funny moments and the scriptdoes well to convey this. The acting is what drove Junior though, aswell as the great if rather ridiculous concept. Arnold Schwarznegger issurprisingly entertaining here in one of his more lighter roles, whileDanny DeVito is even better and Emma Thompson is absolutely gorgeous asthe clumsy scientist and love interest(though I will say as a fan ofhers she has given better performances). Overall, I liked it, it wasn'tgreat but it wasn't awful either. 7/10 Bethany Cox

Amusing.....

Though this is a far-fetched comedy, it still manages to amuse. I'm notbig on comedies, but this one was witty and lovable. Favorite scenesare when Arnold is pretending to be a female German Olympic swimmertransformed by high doses of steroids. This is an endearing movie andthe fact that Arnold is big, muscular and abundantly masculine is allthe more funny when he becomes pregnant and starts exhibiting symptomsassociated with typical female pregnancies. Ending scenes delivering inthe doctor's office are not as humorous, but up to that point, the filmis consistently funny. Arnold carries the film and what a joy to seehim outside of his typecast, Terminator roles.

Silly but fun

Arnold Schwarzenegger gets pregnant. That's about it. The premise isridiculous, the twists and turns in the plot are mind-bogglingly stupid andevery joke is predictable and hammered at you--but I still like this film! The script does have it's moments, but the performances really carry thisone.Arnie is suprisingly very funny when he becomes pregnant (when asks DeVitoin all seriousness "Does my body disgust you?" I broke up); DeVito is justalong for the ride but is good--he's the straight man to Arnie; EmmaThompson is just gorgeous, very funny and full of life as a clumsyscientist. Also Judy Collins (yes, the singer) pops up looking radiant asthe head of a center for pregnant women. Everything looks wonderful and thefilm is slickly made to cater the the audience. I usually hate films likethat, but this worked. The only bad part is Pamela Reed--she's a wonderfulactress and comediene but she's shamefully underused--she doesn't get anygood funny scenes till the end. Also, where else will you see Arnie in adress? It's a one joke film. Is it a good film? No. Do I like it? Very much. Call it a guilty favorite. One complaint--at 2 hours it's too long. Couldn't it have been trimmed alittle?

Adorably fun.

Arnold and DiVito at their best. Cute fish-out-of-water story that had me laughing and sniffling. Absolutely unbelievable story, but who cares? People don't turn into wolves or vampires, either.

watzdabigdeal (07 April 2013)

Why, Arnie!?

After seeing "Junior," I realized that even Arnold Schwarzenegger can haveabad movie. As I see it, "Junior" is Arnold's worst movie. I have no ideawhy he would want to play a pregnant man. As a matter of fact, why wouldany male actor want to play a pregnant man? I guess a movie about apregnant man just doesn't work. If there is any Arnold Schwarzeneggermovieyou would want to avoid, let it be "Junior."

petiteandbeautiful2 (07 April 2013)

Great movie

I love the movie, it's one of my favorite out of the other ArnoldSchwarzenegger movies I've seen. I think that "Junior" is a hilariousmovie, and a great one too! Arnold is a great actor, I mean all on his othermovies, he played like a macho role, but in "Junior", he played kind oflikea feminine role. This movie is so funny that I watch it over and over, because it's a GREAT movie!!

Men now.....what next?

Dr.Alex Hesse(Arnold Schwarzenegger)and his friend and assistant, Dr.Larry Arbogast(Danny Devito) have a plan to fertilize an egg. But theonly thing is that they must pick the 'mother' to place the egg in. Butwhen they can't find one they decide to place the egg in Alex. Ninemonths later Alex gives birth to a perfectly able daughter namedJunior. Thus the title for the movie. Junior depicts the nature ofmotherhood and parenthood for we not only follow in Alex's footstepsduring his pregnancy but we also follow in Dr. Larry Arbogast and hiswife who is also pregnant.Starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Danny Devito and Emma Thompson, theymake this movie funny yet entertaining to watch. A good watch for thekids and you.

Fantastic...Magical

This documentary follows 2 years in the life of a brave scientist, Dr. Alex Hesse who is willing to sacrifice his own time, health, and life to answer the question that has boggled the minds of men since the dawn of time; Is it possible for men to bear children, and if so, are they better at doing it then women or simply different. While its obvious throughout the film that the male body is not designed for the carrying of a child, Dr. Hesse does it with a grace and without complaining (at least that is shown). The film is powerful and magical
