As Good as the Previous One, And with good 3D

My expectations were a little low for this film. Mostly because sequelsare seldom able to capture the magic created by the original work. ButKung Fu Panda 2 was able to recreate the same magic again. I think the3 year gap also helped.Kung Fu Panda 2 retains the same sense of humor and appears reallyfresh. Po shows some vulnerabilities and has to go through an emotionaljourney, albeit a short one. More stress is on humor here than anythingelse, just like in the previous installment. There are some animation sequences which are pictured in past whichwere really fantastic and quite a nice change from the usual style ofthe movie. The 3D is really good unlike some other recent movies. Thereare enough good 3D scenes here to make it worthwhile to wear the clunkyglasses.

A synergistic blend of Zen & Zeal. DreamWorks SKG has done it again!

What can be better than watching Kung Fu Panda 2? Watching it in 3D, ofcourse! The 'awesomeness' of the movie pops right out (pardon the pun). With the involvement of so many voice talents, including the triple J's(Jack Black, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan), Van Damme 'The Muscle FromBrussel', Charlie's Angel Lucy Liu and legendary actor Dustin Hoffman,it is no wonder that the entire animated film scores wonderfully BIG onthe family 'fun' scale. I could hear kids' laughter resonatingthroughout the theater the entire time (adults too).I think DreamWorks Animation is fast establishing itself as THE leaderin developing novel materials that explore new grounds, which willultimately attract new audiences around the globe (from the Hollywoodperspective).Hopefully, for the next installation, acclaimed director Lee Ang can beroped in to inject more 'pow wow' spin to the entire Kung Fu Pandafranchise and boost it to even greater heights.

A Very Amped Up Sequel that may even top the Original!!!

Here's my review of the Movie Kun-Fu Panda 2.First I think the movie is very good and does a great job at expandingand detailing more of Po's world. Though it is not a perfect moviethere are some "bleehh!!!"-moments that keeps repeating that certainlydegrades it in some way, Kung-Fu Panda 2 is a nice movie for kids andkids at heart that likes to watch Kung-Fu movie.Let's start with Po and the revealing of his origins in this movie.Since i have watched the first film way back in 2007 I know in my gutthat they would explore the possibility of Po being an adopted child, Imean duh?! his father's a duck and he's a freakin panda. Not only doesthe film cleverly uses this plot string as the base story, they alsomade it much meater by adding elements that enchanced it and would setthe bar high for the 3rd film. Another great thing about this movie isnot a PO movie alone...since most of the first film focused so much onPo,every one of the furious five got their dreamed airtime. The ActionKung-Fu scenes did NOT disappoint , since they had a true kung-fuchoregrapher as always the action scence's are very bad-ass: whetherit's the dragon warrior fighting side-by-side with the furious five ;The final battle between Po and Co. Vs. their Adversary(which i willnot name for spoiler purposes.) that really is pure awesomeness; theaction clearly delivered more than the comedy. Po's search of "innerpeace" is a great sub-plot the co-incised with Po's past and originsand made it the key in defeating their Adversary to became on of themost powerful kung-fu master....The "bleeh"-moments I'm talking about are the (for me it is)extensive flashback of Po's mom leaving him again and again, Is itreally so hard for a child(watching the movie.) to understand this thatthey have to repeat it every time he see' a certain character. *coughcough a wolf that helped killed their family* One of the other setbackis the movie ditching some of it's comedic moments(which is sooo muchfewer compared to the first one ) to make way for a more mature andserious story.

No replay value. Flat, Predictable, and Charmless

Some characters voiced by famous people were barely used (especiallythe snake, monkey, and bird). I didn't see the first movie, but theyjust seemed like baggage that couldn't be cut. I feel bad for DavidCross getting about 3 lines and none of them being comedic. This was anall star voice cast, and it was mostly wasted. There was no emotional build up in the plot or development of thecharacters. It just stumbled through a series of henchmen fight scenes. You knew how the movie was going to turn out in the end. In fact thiswas one of the most predictable movies I have ever seen. Let alone theplot, scenes, and character types we've seen 100 times before, I foundmyself predicting the ends of the characters lines way too many times. There was no charm to this movie. Compare to a Pixar movie, they bothuse clichés, but Pixar films are actually remembered. Nobody in thisfilm really had a developed personality besides Jack Black's character.Visually, the entire film seemed to be colored an ominous red and gray.It made for a very uncomfortable movie as the whole thing looked likeit was over a fire. Compare to Mulan, where there were scenes in thewhite snow or woods. That was visually memorable. Who cares about thegood CG animation, its like buying a 3 year old expensive crayons. Inaddition I was confused by the purpose of a lot of the non-kung fuaction scenes. I felt like I was watching a video game someone else wasplaying. They went on for forever. I was later told this would normallybe in 3D, makes sense. These scenes are time filling garbage.Review was harsh, but honestly they created this for the quick cash soI don't think they care. This has almost no replay value and won't stayin your memory for long. It won't bore you to death or anything, Ididn't have a bad time watching it, but something irks me when theypull movies like these out of a can and I come here to find it has arating of about 8. That's on par with Aladdin/Fantasia and aboveCinderella/Dumbo. Lets be honest, its about a 4.

Love it man!

Although it certainly did seem that passing the reins over to rookiedirector Jennifer Yuh was bewildering, but Yuh turned out to be perfectin guiding the sequel and the beloved characters in yet anotheradventure, with bigger set action pieces, touching dramatic moments, and retaining plenty of humour from the get go. Credit of course mustgo to writers Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger in coming up with anatural progression of the story of Po (Jack Black), and filling itwith a lot more elements from classic martial arts film formulas suchas a jail break involving skilled pugilists in captivity, a pagoda, getting beat down, recovery and recuperation, and the learning of anew, ultimate skill. To think that the worries came from the scribesbeing responsible for the snooze-fest Monsters Vs Aliens, and Alvin andthe Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.Kung Fu Panda 2 brings back the A-list voices of Black as Po the Panda, now very much comfortable in his celebrity role of the prophesiedDragon Warrior, and the Furious Five consisting of Angelina Jolie asthe no-nonsense, hard hitting Tigress, Seth Rogen as the wisecrackingMantis, David Cross as Crane, Lucy Liu as Viper and the underusedJackie Chan as Monkey, recognizable animals used in distinctive martialarts boxing styles. Also returning are Dustin Hoffman as Master Shifuand James Hong as Mr Ping, while joining the fray are Gary Oldman asthe chief villain Lord Shen the vain peacock, Michelle Yeoh as TheSoothsayer, Jean-Claude Van Damme as Master Croc, Dennis Haysbert asMaster Oxen and Victor garber as Master Thundering Rhino, the latterthree forming some formidable masters of kung fu whose city they'reprotecting falls under siege.

The return of Awesomeness INDEED!

WOW. Thats the only word i uttered during my KUNG FU PANDA 2experience, Im confident that you will be the same. The visuals areunparallelled, the story is as touching as Toy Story 3 and the maincharacter every bit as lovable as he was in his first outing. JackBlack returns to the role I'm sure will be what he will always beremembered for, Po the Panda. The all star voice cast is by the far thehighlight, with everyone involved being given the chance to have a bitmore fun with their respective characters. The story, to which i wontgo into too much detail, follows Po on his journey for inner peace, andto take down evil Peacock, LORD SHEN. Comedy ensues, as does (quitesurprisingly) a whole lot of heart and the best animated fight scenesto date. Loved everything about this movie. Highly recommended. 9/10

A fantastic, substantial sequel

The sequel to the hit "Kung Fu Panda" (2008) (excuse the pun) reallydeveloped into a new level. From the first film we see Po's characterdevelop from a big blob of a panda into a kung fu warrior. We also areintroduced to the Furious Five. So the foundation of the characters islaid to allow the sequel to go all out in creating a substantial story.Yet, there is still development in Po's character for we discover hispast and find out how indeed his father is a duck (or goose) anyway...Iloved that the story was deep and it was still character driven. Therelationship of the father and Po is really special and amusing due tothe obvious appearance differences. This film is so much fun, for bothadults and children, you will not be disappointed. I also loved thefact that the film managed to convey a deep message and yet it did notfeel corny or cheesy. The message is about letting go of your troubledpast and moving on into your future. There is also a shocking andawesome ending, the ending sequences are awesome. DreamWorks has doneit again!

Made me laughed so hard in the cinemas!

I've always thought that Dreamworks productions are always 1 stepbehind Pixar. But Kung Fu Panda (2008) has proved me wrong.Unlike most sequels, it's always either better than the first or worstthan the first. Not this time, Kung Fu Panda 2 didn't try to recyclecinematography angles or cheesy lines or similar animation scenes.Which is why I would say – watch it! I wouldn't tell you the wholestory here and spoil it for you but here are a few points to excite youto watch it!- The new characters introduced in this sequel is nicely thought out.The villain, which is Lord Shen, a peacock has got an interestingbackground story tied to Master Po. Did I mention freaking cool kung futoo?- Torn between choices for favorite scene but I would pick the dragonlooking costume scene cause I seriously had a great time laughing outloud in the cinema.

A joyful, glorious animated adventure . . . especially in 2D.

"Kung Fu Panda 2" is a joyful, glorious animated adventure, fastmoving, quick-witted, and a lot more fun then I had expected. Theanimation is crisp and beautiful - more-so in lovely 2D - and clearlyshows the advances of the art form. Here is a movie that isn't simply aclone stamp of the original but actually expands on its story and itscharacters to create something really special. The previous film simply dealt with the cheerfully goofy panda hero Po(voice of Jack Black), discovering his destiny though the art of KungFu and being groomed to become The Dragon Master. That adventure wasfun, but not exactly deep. It was an odd mixture of Chinese folkloreand western 21st century sensibilities. It was jarring, but now that Ihave gotten use to that odd union, the sequel is a little easier toswallow. The story this time is a little heavier and far better. Po, as themovie opens, has begun to wonder about his past especially since hisfather Mr. Ping is a goose (voiced by James Hong). Po decides thatthere may be some need-to-know information. The answer comes from aproblem that is looming over the land, an army led by an evilknife-throwing peacock named Shen (voiced by Gary Oldman) who possessesa new element called gunpowder and intends to use it to dominate all ofChina and wipe out the art of Kung Fu. Shen knows the secrets of Po'spast and our furry hero determines to uncover the truth. So, Po amasses his Kung Fu fighting force, The Furious Five, whichincludes Tigress (voiced by Angelina Jolie), Mantis (voiced by SethRogan), Viper (voiced by Lucy Liu), Monkey (voiced by Jackie Chan) andCrane (voiced by David Cross). The joy of the characters in this sequelis that they are given more screen time and a little more depth, especially Tigress who is a fearsome warrior and may, in some futuresequel, win Po's heart. I also loved the presence once again of Po'smaster, the red panda Shifu, voiced beautifully by Dustin Hoffman.Shifu has much less screen time in this sequel, but his brief scenesare really touching. What is special about "Kung Fu Panda 2" is that it doesn't just repeatthe formula of the original but takes its characters onto a much largercanvas. Po's search for his real parentage is deep and quite moving, told in flashbacks using some really beautiful hand-drawn animation. That story is connected to the main plot with Shen, who is a wonderfulmovie villain. Here is an evil white peacock with an erudite manner andan evil presence. We might be inclined to laugh at the possibility ofan evil peacock but, in the world of this movie, it works. The action scenes are breathtaking. When the characters fly through theair, there is a sense of depth and balance and weight. The actionscenes, unlike so many these days, are fast-paced without ever becomingjust a series of confusingly edited shots. We understand where thecharacters are in relation to one another and we know what is at stake. The animators really seem to have thought out these scenes and figuredout how to make them special, not routine. There are moments in the film of startling originality especially agreat comic moment when Po must sneak through town to the tower thathouses Shen's army. He uses one of those parade dragon costumes to gethimself and his Furious Five past the guards. When he needs to speak tosomeone with information, Po has the dragon simply drag them inside thecostume by gobbling them up. When he must fight an enemy guard withoutbeing detected, the dragon gobbles him up, and the costume drops himout the other end. There are at least two dozen moments like that, myfavorite being a scene in which the portly Po faces his arch nemesis: aflight of stairs.Seeing the movie is 2D was a breath of fresh air. The 3D process tendsto get in the way, making the scenes look muddy and dark. Watching themovie without the intrusion, I was able to focus on the beauty of theanimation. There are wonderful textures on the surfaces and on thecharacters. When we get a close-up of Po's fur, it is finely detailedso that we can see the individual hairs. More than that, the faces arewonderfully expressive, not just in eyes that open and close, but inpure emotion. Some may think that I am overpraising this film, but I can only reporthow I felt. I settled into my seat and kind of knew what I was getting.Having seen the original, with its vision of China completely populatedby various types of animals, I was ready for this one. It does whatgreat sequels do, it moves past its original concept and broadens thehorizons of its story possibilities. It offers new sights to see andnew characters to behold. I enjoyed this movie, much more than Iexpected.

waste of money....

I could not enjoy this movie at all. In the first movie, every nextscene came with its own surprise, fun and adventure. But in thissequel, many a times things did not make any sense. On one hand, Pandadefeats the enemies with his super kung fu and on other hand, he cannotgive a single punch to the tigress. I think it was a failed attempt tomake Panda funny, which ended up making him look rather stupid.I went to the movie with great excitement. Only 3 people including meshowed up for this movie. I wish I had not spent money on this. I amgiving it 6 stars for the few funny scenes it had and overall work doneto make this movie.

Impressive martial arts, consistent gags - a worthy successor.

The first Kung Fu Panda made audiences go blind from over-exposure topure awesomeness (and attractiveness) so this sequel was alwaysdestined to fall short of the massive benchmark set, the question wasjust by how much. Well, thankfully, not by much at all. With Po (voicedby Jack Black) now the Dragon Warrior and having to save the art ofkung fu from the wretched Lord Shen (Gary Oldman – excellentlysinister), the uber-impressive martial arts sequences are back in fullforce. Throw in consistent gags, iridescent animation as good as anyPixar outing (aided by the subtle 3D) and superb voice work by allinvolved – including Dustin Hoffmann as the wise Shifu, Angelina Jolieas the fierce Tigress, Seth Rogen as the cheeky Mantis and, in a strokeof casting genius, Jean-Claude Van Damme as the chop socky expertMaster Croc – and you have a highly worthy successor that will pleaseboys and girls of all ages. Bring on KFP3! Skadoosh.

An emphatic return with a darker story; great movie with lots in it for the adults as well

The question that has been floating around about Kung Fu Panda 2 is ifit is Shrek 2 or Toy Story 2 of animated sequels? Well, I'm happy tosay it's Toy Story 2 kind of animated sequel - a genuine good moviethat takes risks and succeeds rather than rehashing the first movie.Po isn't as much of a gastro-kung-fu fighter and fanboi from the firstmovie but has grown in his personality; he's less the Jack Black as apanda and more of a character that stands on it's own. However, Po isnow the tragic hero in a Greek style prophecy which foretells of awarrior in black and white who would defeat a certain Lord Shen who hasinvented a new weapon that could spell the end of kung-fu. As Po learnsthat he is adopted, he struggles to find out about his past and thestrange symbol from his nightmares. The heavy subject matter doesn'tweight down the movie and is continually and cleverly able to escapeinto funny moments without losing gravitas. It successfully weaves thetopics of fatherhood, friendship and family into a colorful story thateven though we know how it will end, it gets there very veryemphatically.I'm really glad that Kung Fu Panda 2 didn't go the route of being apurely children's movie and didn't go the route of being built on jokesof Po's eating and Po's weight. I suppose the fortune cookie philosophyof master Shifu is slightly missed but purely a small quibble in a goodmovie. As a final note, maybe it's because of my eyesight with a weakerleft eye, I barely noticed the 3D at all. Highly recommended movie.

Enjoyable sequel

I enjoyed "Kung Fu Panda" and am happy to report that the sequel isnearly as funny and smart as the original. The animation is again top class, with bright colours and brilliantfacial expressions bringing the characters to life. The story is about the Po's search for how he was separated from hisfamily as a cub and is quite touching and sad at times. Shen, the evilcharacter that broke up his family, has returned and is trying to takeover China this time.As in the first film there are some spectacular action sequences tokeep the kids happy. Perhaps there isn't as much smart humour for thebenefit of the adults as in the first movie but this is still a greatmovie for all the family.Jack Black is perfect as the voice of Po and the surprisingly stellarsupporting cast (Angelina Jolie/Dustin Hoffman) again do a great job.The ending leaves the viewer almost certain that there will be a thirdmovie, so I'll look forward to that also.

Actually better than expected

My partner and I took his teenaged sister and her boyfriend to thecinema, and when she chose Kung Fu Panda 2 the only upside - from mypoint of view - was that she hadn't chosen Bad Teacher. The first thing to say is that you do need to have seen the originalKing Fu Panda, and you need to have paid more attention than Iapparently did because I spent the first twenty minutes going"...what?". But, rather unexpectedly, it IS good fun. Shen - the newbaddie, voiced by Gary Oldman, is well-developed and pleasantlysinister (particularly considering he's a damn peacock - who'd'vethought?), and the back-story that's gradually presented tying him andPo together is surprisingly dark for a kids' film. It sounds like atrivial point, but I also enjoyed the styling of the flash-backs andnarrative sequences too. The other Kung Fu warriors have becomesidelined slightly which is a shame, but Mr Ping comes into his own andthe little sub-plot about Po's adoption is actually rather sweet. It's not brilliant, but it's engaging and funny in places. Your kids'llenjoy it, and you;ll probably be mildly entertained too.

nameesh (05 May 2012)

Very predictable in terms of the content

Well, the movie was a total waste compared to the 1st part. It seemedto be forced upon people to watch a Sequel of a beautifully done movieduring the 1st part. I don't think people should make sequels withnon-sense content like this.Seems like the Dragon Warrior seems to make a fool of himself all thetime. And needs someone to rescue, which I think is so stupid. Manytime we can laugh at the dumbness of the Panda. There were few moments when movie was very interesting, especially thePanda's chase around the city. Otherwise, it seemed like those oldfashioned movie where hero(s) family is destroyed by villain and herotakes revenge. My rating is only basic on the graphic content for the movie, havetried to portray things very realistically. But yes, 1 verydisappointing thing is the 3D effect, somehow putting on the glassesmakes the brightness go down. Many times the clarity is missingbig-time.

GoneWithTheTwins (05 May 2012)

This second outing has the opportunity to utilize each role purely for action, adventure, comic relief and even a bit of pathos.

Kung Fu Panda 2 capitalizes on the same techniques that made itspredecessor successful: a goofy lead character struggling desperatelyto fit in; comical character designs and playful animation; and anall-star cast of voice actors with such recognizable articulation thatthey breach the visual barrier of their 3D alter egos. Although thefirst film defined the characters, their relationships, destinies andthe setting of ancient Asia, this second outing has the opportunity toutilize each role purely for action, adventure, comic relief and even abit of pathos. Just when the sappiness ramps up to the point ofunbearable, the script has enough sense to thwart eye-rolls (or tearsif the manipulation worked) with sharply contrasting humor.Po (Jack Black) the overweight panda has been proclaimed the almighty"Dragon Warrior," and oversees the safety of China with his band ofcapable sidekicks, the Furious Five: Tigress (Angelina Jolie), Mantis(Seth Rogen), Monkey (Jackie Chan), Crane (David Cross) and Viper (LucyLiu). As he speaks with his patient master Shifu (Dustin Hoffman) aboutfinding inner peace, a gang of wolf bandits pillages a nearby city insearch of metal objects, forcing Po to depart for a hasty rescue. As hewill soon discover, the banished peacock Lord Shen (Gary Oldman) hasforged fire-breathing, metal-spitting cannons to wipe out all who standin his path to world domination. It's debatable whether or not the story has grown more entertaining, especially considering the plot is little more than a generic kung futale of good vs. evil, like the kind found in just about everylive-action martial arts film in the last several decades. While themain conflict is a relentless overlord with an obedient army anddestructive weaponry, the underlying discordance is Po's hazyrecollection of the past and the desire to know who he is, how he endedup the son of a goose, and what happened to his real parents. Is Po inneed of confidence or the drive of revenge? Are his actions provoked byinner peace, as the movie insists on preaching, or by the powerfulforce that is adrenaline-pumping payback? Perhaps he's simply trying tosucceed at being "hardcore" so that he can measure up to hiscompanions. And if that's the case, it's a shame that so much of histime is spent annoyingly foiling reconnaissance, ambush and rescuemissions with his numbing defiance and cack-handed clumsiness. It'sfunny at times to see how pathetic he is compared to his generallyno-nonsense warrior counterparts, but equal parts infuriating that hedoesn't have to learn the hard way that there are consequences for hisreckless actions. This leads to the invincibility exhibited by allparties, which reduces the urgency and seriousness of everypredicament. Po is immune to injuries and haphazardly shields himselffrom harm with an accidental frying pan, a lucky misstep, or a loosefloor plank that swings up (like stepping on a rake) to block anonslaught of throwing knives. Crane similarly avoids danger withspastic flight, and Tigress has no excuses at all – she suffers onlysinged whiskers after taking a cannonball to the face. Gravity andphysics also seem to utterly evade the heroes, playing no part in theirunlikely escapes – although it does make the creatively complex chasesequences more intense and spontaneous.- The Massie Twins (GoneWithTheTwins.com)

Your next favourite animated Movie

If you liked Kung Fu Panda #1, you will love #2. With the exception ofa little bit of a cryptic ending, the story is perfection. It's alsothe kind of movie that will make you want to run out and buy a blu-rayif you don't already own one. The detail in every scene is justmind-blowing. It's also my 4 yr old's favourite movie. He's watched itabout 40 times. And no, it's no too scary for that age. Anyone whothinks otherwise, is probably a helicopter parent who bubble wrapstheir kids at night. Yes, there is fighting.. but hey, it's 'kung fu!'- I mean that in a fun way. It's 'good' vs 'bad' and there's no blood.I watched much scarier movies that Disney put out when I was a kid, andme and my whole generation grew up just fine. So get the familytogether and enjoy it, I guarantee you'll want to clap and cheer by theend!

What the first film should have been, a great animated movie

A couple of years ago during the summer time Kung Fu Panda came out, itwas a cute film with a very predictable story. I liked it over all, butI couldn't get into the voices as much and also the story had been doneto death. The overweight goofy outcast wants to be with the cool group,he finds out he can but doubts himself but gets with the group when hediscovers who he is. The sequel I was thinking I could just wait forthe rental which I did and I have to say that I'm disappointed inmyself that I didn't see it in the theater. Kung Fu Panda 2 is veryoriginal and has some amazing characters as well as some very beautifulanimation.Lord Shen, heir of the peacock clan that ruled Gongmen City in ancientChina, sought to harness the power of fireworks as a weapon with whichto rule the entire country. When he learned from the court's goatsoothsayer that "a warrior of black-and-white" would one day defeathim, Shen assumed she was referring to a panda and exterminated much ofthe panda population to avert the prophecy. Shen's parents werehorrified at this atrocity and exiled Shen, who swore revenge. Thirtyyears later, Po is living his dream as the Dragon Warrior, protectingthe Valley of Peace alongside his friends and fellow kung fu masters, the Furious Five, but is told by Master Shifu that he has yet toachieve inner peace. While fighting off a pack of wolf bandits who havebeen stealing refined metal for Lord Shen, Po is distracted by a symbolon the head wolf's armor, which causes Po to have a flashback of hismother and allows the wolves to escape. The group realizes they muststop Shen from taking over China, but there's more to the story of Poand his parents that Shen knows about and it becomes very personal. One of the things I loved about this movie was the villain, Shen. Hewasn't just a typical bad guy who really had no motive to be bad, buthis parents had banned him from his home when they realized that he wasbad. You can see the pain I his eyes when they are mentioned around himand could really understand his pain. Plus the animation on him wasjust beautiful, being a peacock he has some really great weapons withthe knives as feathers. Po, despite Jack Black's voice still being adistraction, was really wonderful in the film as well and gives somegreat laughs. Although there were some moments where I wished theytoned down the slap stick a little bit. There were some moments wheresilence would have worked better to make this a perfect film. While the film has little flaws here and there, this was still aterrific film just on the story alone. The characters are all likableand the message of the film is very beautiful. To find an inner peacewith yourself is very hard, but to let kids know that it's alright tolet go of anger was a wonderful message. I loved the way the characterswere animated and the fight scenes were just exciting and kept you onthe edge of your seat. I would recommend Kung Fu Panda 2, it definitelywas what the first film was missing and was what it should have beenthe first time around. This was a big step up and if they make a thirdfilm going in this direction, I'll be the first in line buying aticket.9/10

Awesomeness times two.

Dreamworks is at it again! "Kung Fu Panda" was one heck of a big hitand when news of a sequel came up, I was fairly excited. Most of thesame cast is back and are thrown into an adventure unlike any other.Get ready to feel the thunder because this is Kung Fu Panda 2.Po the panda is now officially the new Dragon Warrior and is currentlyliving the dream. However, a new threat bigger than Tai Lung hasemerged and threatens not only the existence of kung fu, but also allof China. That threat is Lord Shen, a deadly albino peacock (GaryOldman) who leads an army of wolves and gorillas, has possession of aweapon the world has never seen, and shares a mysterious and traumaticlink to our hero's past. Po and the Furious Five (Tigress, Monkey,Mantis, Crane, and Viper) must find a way to stop the evil Lord Shenfrom taking over China once and for all with all the skill andawesomeness they have. It's great to see the old gang come back like Jack Black, AngelinaJolie, Jackie Chan, Lucy Lui, etc. Likewise, we have an all new groupof actors coming into the fray: Gary Oldman (Lord Shen), Michelle Yeoh(Soothsayer), Jean-Claude Van Damme (Master Croc), etc. There's a lotmore action going on and it's pretty intense. The jokes are still aload of fun, guaranteed to make you laugh at least a few times. Thestory is actually more complex and a little darker than what we're usedto from these kinds of movies, with emotions from some the charactersbeing conveyed quite well.Lord Shen has become one of my favorite movie villains of all time, being fairly complex and having a deadly combination of both brawn andbrain. Being an albino peacock makes him seem like an unlikely threat, which helps to hide his sinister nature. What makes even more great ishis connection with Po, which is something that is sure to shake thingsup a little bit and raise the stakes for our heroes.I would have liked to see characters like Master Croc have a biggerrole in the plot, but there's nothing I can do. Overall, this is one ofthose sequels that surpasses the originals. Wonderfully done and I lookforward to more sequels. Check it out. Skidoosh!
