Much Better Than I Ever Woulda Thought

Critics will obviously hate this movie once they hear it stars "MileyCyrus"... they won't even give it a chance. They're stubborn. The movie needs to be watched with an open-mind.Not a huge MC fan, but I loved this movie. It was 100,000x better than expected and the concept is so relatableand the acting is so spot-on that it's almost freaky!11/10 stars for impressing me! ;) So didn't expect such a great movie.Critics BETTER watch before judging, because they'll be astounded andutterly surprised!GOOD JOB, MILEY! WOW!

Its not that bad!

I really do not understand why this film is being judged so harshly! Igenuinely enjoyed it! I can agree that the script, plot etc. were notamazing but I liked it! Im a teenager and every teenager I know enjoyedit so I am assuming that these reviews are being written by olderpeople. But for teenagers its a good film it shows that you makemistakes and have fun. News flash thats what teenagers are like today, hate to say it but they're stupid. They fight, bitch, text, and aredramatic. I found the film easy to relate to and the guy isunbelievably hot! so Teenager girls, don't be put off, its a good film! This film is light and enjoyable. So dear critics, This is a film foryoung people to relate too. Not people....your age. Not trying tooffend. Thanks. Lucy

There is absolutely no way this ever could be mistaken for "Hannah Mantana"

This film appears to be a very, very loud statement by Miley Cyrus thatshe is no longer the sweet and innocent Hannah Montana but is'edgy'--and the results come off as rather vulgar just for the sake ofvulgarity. The characters in the film use lots of profanity, lierepeatedly, are obsessed with sex, make passes at their high schoolteachers (now THAT'S a positive story element!), smoke, drink heavily,do drugs and act sullen and selfish. But at least they remember to usecondoms! Yep...this certainly ain't "Hannah Montana"! Now I CANunderstand Cyrus wanting to broaden her appeal and grow up, but this isNOT the right way to do it--especially since I am sure many of her TVfans ended up going to this film. As a parent of a teen, I just thoughtthis was nasty...very, very nasty. While I know many teens ARE likethis, why did everyone (parents included) have to be so darnunlikable?! Yes, the 'adults' seemed no better! This gets to the heartof the film's problem--the unlikability of everyone. Although theproduction values are good, what good did this film do for Cyrus'flagging career and who was the intended audience? Apart from extremelydisaffected 18-20 year-olds (who probably wouldn't be caught dead goingto a Miley Cyrus film as that's NOT cool), I have no idea. Parentswould be offended and shocked and nice kids would probably notappreciate its strong PG-13 (close to R) sensibilities--or be allowedto see the film. I just wish everyone would just grow up in this film. And, by the way, when the film had an anti-drug message, it's verystrong pro-drug message through the earlier part of the film made thisall seem very hypocritical. While I hated the film and thought it gross, some of the Indie musicwas nice (though, as an old man of 48, if I liked it then it clearly isNOT cool and kids will hate it) and the production values (apart fromthe script) were nice. Clearly, the film cost a bit of money and is notan Ed Wood epic...but it certainly ain't great. Apparently, for a whilethis film was in IMDb's Bottom 100 list. However, a recent spike nowhas lifted it to an overall score of 2.8--still hardly a great film ifratings can be trusted...and in this case, they probably can be.

Disappointing. It's such a shame up and coming and talented actors suchas Booth became involved in this project. I hope it doesn't harm anyfuture opportunities. The plot is a mess. It has some interesting concepts but none of themwere developed well enough for them to be relevant to the story. Thestoryline was all over the place and the first half seemed like a neverending commercial for Apple. If the writers had taken the time todevelop the characters instead of relying on their good looks to win usover then this venture would have been more of a success. I didn't careabout any of the characters and despised Cyrus' character Lol. (I amnot a Miley hater by the way, I tried so hard to like her character inthis film. I'm not commenting on her acting ability either, she reallywasn't given much to play with here) She was empty, shallow, vapid andspoilt and I couldn't empathize with her in the slightest, she had nodepth to her and no personality. The themes were vague. I wish they hadspent more time creating decent dialogue instead of relying on wishywashy montages. It just wasn't coherent and to watch was completelyfrustrating. To say this film is about a mother that discovers herteenager's diary is misleading also as this literally happens in thelast 15 minutes and is quickly resolved. There was no real relationshipbetween the two anyway so this seemed like a pointless way of injectingsome actual action in to the story as it feels like nothing reallyhappens. They could have easily just focused on one theme- either the friendshipand development of a relationship with one of her best friends (theydidn't even seem like best friends to begin with? we just had to relyon "He's been my friend for a really long time" quote) or therelationship between a mother and daughter (they didn't seem to haveone either?) or this "reliance on technology" thing that wasn't eventhat prominent. It was just irritating and annoying to see them texteach other all of the time. It was like an excessively long phonecommercial. It just seemed like this aspect was added so the filmmakers could claim this is what their film was about. The more I write the more frustrated I become. I don't know. I'd justavoid it. A complete mess.

Great Movie!

After reading the reviews for LOL and watching the movie, I absolutelyloved it! I was hesitant at first before I watched LOL, but I was soglad I made the right choice to watch it. It deals with relationships, love, and problems. It's not like any other movie about love andrelationships. The movie itself is awkward, but hilarious!! My friend and I could notstop laughing! I'm not the type of fourteen year old girl who isobsessed with chick flicks, but this movie is amazing! Im not a big fanof Miley Cyrus, but in LOL, she is amazing at her role. So, either buythe movie or rent it. Either hate it or love it. I LOVED IT! This movieinspired me to write in a journal. Hopefully a lot of people will keepa journal with them. This is the type of movie you can watch with yourmom, your friend, or just by yourself! This movie will touch your heartand any teenager or adult will adore this movie!! I'm sure you willlove it!!

Just no.

You can change your status, but not your heart. When reading this tagline you can get an instant view of the movie. Talentless, boring, andneeds to be changed. It was so unrealistic, and I don't even want towaste words on a review for this movie. How can you make such a rubbishmovie?!? First 5 mins of this film you have an irritating voice overthats not one bit meaningful or says anything useful. With a film likethis you wouldn't expect this as the concept is actually good, but Idon't think I could say another good thing about it. 0/10 Not worth it. Take it back and make a film, not a school projectwhere your trying to find out how a camera works.

Goosebumps

This film only appeals to people who are between the ages of 13-17 andmostly appeals to girls, if your watching this and your a 38 year oldman, it's pretty clear you won't like it.At times this film gives me goosebumps because of all the momentsbetween Lola (Miley Cyrus) and Her Mum who share a really closerelationship. The Group of friends in school contain boys and girls whoare mostly paired up in relationships, Typical School life and a heartwarming story. A few famous actors who I recognised star in the filmwhich made it all the better. Good acting through-out and a good story line One of my favourite films, don't understand all the bad reviews.

johnnymacbest (23 March 2013)

Painful.

If there's one way to describe this movie, it would be utterlyatrocious, execrable trash. In no way are there any redeeming qualitiesin this "film" as it is filled with a moronic plot, hideous dialog(ifyou can call it that)banal acting and overall crap. The whole thing isa ruse; it looks like a low-budget made-for-TV film that ironicallyenough SHOULD HAVE BEEN A MADE-FOR-TV FILM IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! I'msorry, but after Hanna Montana and the atrocious film that followed it,Miley Cyrus's career as an actress is pretty much in the toilet. Only awickedly hardcore Miley Cyrus fan would watch this because anyself-respecting movie-lover would stay clear away from this hell-holeof a movie.1 out of 5 stars. That's how bad this piece of sh*t is.

itslikeatanktop (22 March 2013)

Great Chick flick. Why all the complaints?

I had very low expectations of this movie considering all the reviews Iread before watching it, but now, afterward, I am happy to say that Ienjoyed it from beginning to end.The story was scripted full of clichés and had quite cheesy lines, which I personally didn't mind considering it being a total chickflick. I am a sucker for these kind of movies and guessing it is for ayounger adult/teenage audience, it fit me perfectly. Sure, it's aHollywood movie, it doesn't mirror real life very well at all, but allthose small details in behaviors, issues and thoughts are fun torecognize yourself in as a teenager yourself. The actors were great, I don't know what's up with all the fuzz aboutMiley, I am not a hardcore fan, but I really enjoyed her performance inThe Last song, which was quite a lot a more of a serious movie, but Ihave no complaints about this one. She plays her roll well and so doesthe whole cast. It does have a kind of "Mean girls" feeling to it, justnot as dramatic and extreme, which I find positive because they becomea little bit more real. Realistic for being a Hollywood movie. It fulfilled everything I could think of because I can't find anythingbad to say about it. It has love and relationships being reflected fromdifferent angles; boyfriend-girlfriend, mother-daughter and friendship.I think there can be something for everyone whether you're a littlesister or a grandmother, the only requirement is not expecting a Oscarperformance movie, but being open about having a few laughs. Becausethat's what this movie can bring you.

Met my expectations just right

I don't know whats wrong with people around the net. Seriously guys themovie is just great. The storyline is not predictable and the littleromance between Kyle and Lola is just cute. Everything comes out rightat the end. Something that probably wouldn't work out in real life asit was just perfect, but thats why we go to the movies, right? ACTING I read a million (not literally) reviews about the crap acting in thismovie. Either people are dumb or I am dumb, but the acting wasn't badand if you've watched The Last Song and LOL you'll see that there's animprovement in Miley's acting. Okay than, in conclusion, I would definitely recommend this movie. It'scute and amazing. There are some laughs here and there, but don'texpect a comedy, and I was smiling mostly through the whole movie. Ohand I also have a couple of notes on the movie:Lola's narrator voice was just fricking annoyng, I'm sory guys but itwas just fricking annoying.Another thing: tehre was some language taht I wouldn't really recommendfor twelve year olds (drugs, wh**es, sl**s, s*x, s*x, and more s*x)I would definitely recommend. Sorry about my spelling mistakes, justcouldn't wait to review after I watched it.

LOL Parents Content Guide.

This movie is a little bit of a jump for Cyrus in acting from Disney tothis movie. NO SPOILERS: Language: S' word is dropped once..maybe twice, then there's the usualwords..damn, hell, b*tch, and ass. Violence/Gore: Miley gets slapped across the face once, nothinggraphic.Sexual Content/Nudity: No Nudity shown at all in the film. Miley has 2"sensual" scenes in bed nothing crazy graphic, it's shown she still hasher bra on in both moments. Cyrus is seen kissing another girl for .1second and that's it/ nothing crazy graphic. Dialague: Cyrus's Brizillian is brought up once. Teenage sexuality isreferenced for a moment. Mild references are made between girls, notcrazy much. Children under 15 should not see this film with out a parental unitpresent.

Exaggerated Chick Flick

I'm not a big fan of Miley Cyrus but this one is much different andmore interesting than any movies she has done before. I think thatMiley Cyrus did improve from her other movies such as The Last Song. Inthis movie she has to play a difficult teenager. I don't think thatguys would like this movie. I felt that some parts were to cheesy. Themusic was good. Demi Moore in this movie is the mum of the difficultteenager Lola (Cyrus) she did an okay job but nothing impressive. Tomany clichés and not that much of a plot. If you like the 'teen rebel'kind of movie this is probably for you. I would never watch this again. If you have a girls night then this is probably the movie you shouldrent. As I said before this is not like anything Miley Cyrus has donebefore so it might shock the viewers of Hannah Montana.

The Worst Film-Making I've Seen in my Life

The film? Well, I went with high expectations about a humorful andemotional life of teenager Lola who faced huge and ravaging problemswith the consequences of having her life plotted on Facebook andTwitter. You know, kind of this Social Network/Cyber-Bully kind ofthing, if you know what I mean. But let's have something clear here: ITSUCKED LIKE HELL! The acting was horrible, the plot was sverely weak, the movie had a humorless atmosphere and the characters were not strongand afirmable enough to compel a well-made background. It was all LOL.Literally, bitchy girls, bitchy boys kissing and texting. THAT'S ALL!Maybe if you want to waste some money, i truly recommend this movie andI wanna thank this movie for 2 things in my life: First: To teach methat I'm not supposed to go to a movie with high expectations Second:It gave me this huge relief when it was over. Rating: 0.1/10

Just because you don't like Miley...

...doesn't mean you instantly have to rate the movie bad. Some peoplehave been giving it bad reviews just because of Miley being in themovie and they haven't even seen it yet.A lot of people have said that they enjoyed the movie, and Miley'sacting. Half of these people didn't even like Miley, so she could nothave been as bad as you are all making her out to be. Even from thetrailer, you can see that her acting isn't bad. It's actually prettygood. And if you moved on from disliking her because of things she'sdone in her personal life (which doesn't affect her acting at all), youwould probably enjoy the movie a lot more than you did.The movie is a coming of age film which shows the young generation andthe relationship between mother and daughter. If you're lucky enough tobe able to see it in one of the very few cinemas it's showing in,please do. The movie is on a VERY limited release and we want it to getexpanded so that more of Miley's fans have a chance to see it. Not evenjust Miley's fans - there's Demi Moore, Ashley Greene, Douglas Boothand more. I'm positive that if you go and watch the movie and give it achance (without judging Miley for "bad" things she's done in herPERSONAL life) you will actually enjoy it.

i-fox-man (02 March 2013)

God almighty .... God, almighty.

Why is it that almost every movie that one of those music pop starsfeatures in is an utter, waste of theater seats, waste of the youngminds' grey matter.. Not that any is used in understanding thenon-existent complexity of the production, but because it should bedevoted to something else... I don't know, watching Shutter Islandmaybe? You might be thinking this review says nothing specific aboutthe movie, and you'd be right. Nothing in it is worth putting intowords. I'd rather spare you the dull read. You know whenever a member posts their first review, it's usually on amovie that's absolutely blown them out of the water. Not the case forme here. Not sure if I should be proud of it.Briefly put, if you're a middle-aged or even a young man eager to findout why your daughter or teen girlfriend adores this movie and if youwant to go and see what's what, all I've got to say to you is... Forthe love of God, DON'T.A.Y.M.

Waste of Film Reels

A monotonous, dreadful film that follows the gimmicks of socialnetworking and text messaging. I wouldn't classify this as a movie; itfalls along the lines of high school trauma and the depressing pokes ofa Facebook page. The acting was sub-par and the love story was theequivalent of rusty nails while it focuses on the redundant internetslang we constantly see today. The whole feeling of the film wasbasically like looking at a Facebook page. Very dull and asinine withthe sense of delusional romance forever reminding us how little hoperemains for todays youth. If this is what you call qualityentertainment then I fear for the sanctity of our Media. Major waste offilming resources and should be shot into the sun for the sake ofhumanity.

"I don't care about the population of china" - Miley Cyrus

This was one of the MANY subliminal messages, be stupid.. its cool tobe stupid, get in love with someone just because is hot, get in bed itsOK, having sex its not a big deal (I would normally agree with this, but this movie is for teens, Miley Cyrus should be more careful, sheeven have preteen fans). The movie is also racist, they show French people as "strict"people, boring and weird, there is a scene when Miley Cyrus calls her mom andcomplained about the French being weird then they switch the cameraback to the US where kids are eating junk food and drinking coca-cola.Instead of visiting beautiful places like the Seine River for a boattrip, they just fooled around dancing in the fountains, shopping and ofcourse having sex. Visiting Paris it was "not a big deal" just as MileyCyrus said, America style of life is way better. Also in the agenda of this movie they talk about how Cannabis isharmful and "it causes schizophrenia and brain damage", stated thepolice detective in front of all the kids, they are LYING, in factthere have been many studies proving that cannabis promotes neuronalgrowth. they don't even mention the dangerous drugs (eg cocaine, heroine). Why are they making this kind of movies? We need to promote othervalues.WARNING--- DO NOT LET YOUR KIDS WATCH THIS MOVIE

Same awesome French movie, just more glamorous, less real

Viewed original French version after viewing American version. Sameawesome movie. American version is entirely the same movie, just moreglamorous and more up-to-American-environment. I don't know if USteenagers are really more glamorous than European, but that makes aslight difference between movies, actually. European version seems morereal, while American gives you a hatch to the glamorous life. So everyversion is better than the other in some way. I guess all the weed isstill from European culture, they just didn't want to change theworking movie. Or, maybe, I just don't have too many American weedsmoking friends, so I underestimate that.So why this huge gap in rating between the two versions? Americantrolls of Miley Cyrus, I guess.
