The Avengers starts with a bang, as the god Loki emerges through a gatein space into a remote research facility. He converts a few people towork with him, including Agent Barton, a.k.a Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner). His plan is, of course, to take over the world and enslave all thehumans, or as he puts it, "free them from freedom". S.H.I.E.L.Ddirector Nick Fury (Samuel. L. Jackson) assembles a group ofsuperheroes including the vain Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), theAsgardian Thor (Chris Hemsworth), the warrior Captain America (ChrisEvans), and my personal favorite, the powerful, awesome, andspectacular Hulk (Mark Ruffalo). The purpose of these heroes is tocombat the threat Loki. This movie was great from start to finish. Sure the director went alittle overboard with the special effects, and the flying aircraftcarrier was a little much. But otherwise, it was fun, clever, andexciting. Joss Whedon did a great job of mashing all these heroes, whoeach had their unique personalities into one film, which acknowledgedeach and every one of them. the humour was smart, well placed, andperfect. One thing though, is that the 3D was awful. It made the screen dark, and it made people sitting off-centre nauseous. So if you are going tosee this movie, I suggest seeing it in 2D. I also suggest sitting nearthe wall, because during the intense action scenes, the walls vibrateand it gives you a feeling of actually being in the movie. This movie probably would only appeal to the young people, as youngpeople love the sensation and the insanity shown in these films.

This is a well done comic book superhero film for everyone. Specialeffects, even in the 2D version are definitely worth the price of theadmission ticket. We all thoroughly enjoyed the film. The film does getoff to a good start and then it does slow down a bit to construct theplot and the character interaction to make it all work. But, when thatis done, the film becomes a roller coater ride of special effects andaction that is a treat to watch. Good Humor, Good Plot Build, GoodCharacter Development, and Just Plain Well Done. The only reason wedidn't give it a 10 is because we did not see the 3-D version and theslow build in the center (that, by the way is totally necessary) thatmakes the film worth seeing! Be SURE to see this while it's in thetheaters! First film in a while that is worth every penny.

The Avengers, is a movie that appeals to the senses. No not touch ortaste, but with so many special effects, great sounds quality, and somany different scene set ups it makes you feel like you're actuallythere in the movie fighting alongside with The Avengers. Hey, you mighteven give yourself a super hero name to make you feel like one of thecrew. Avenger's style is much different than many other super heromovies that there has been in the past. Marvel has struck gold with theconcept that they have brought forth to the millions of fans of theirsuperhero army. Every child had that one super hero that they wanted tobe as a kid while they were growing up. Yeah Marvel has given each oneof these heroes their fame separately, but that way is a thing of thepast. What's better to hit two birds with one stone you might ask? Howabout ten birds with one stone? That's what The Avengers creators didwhen they brought together all of your child hood heroes into onemovie. Just the idea is pure genius. Yeah a single character may appealto wide audience but having multiple characters with millions offollowers that would want to see their movie all together equals bigmoney. So that's why the concept of this movie as a whole is a win forthe Marvel Company. The way that all of the characters in this filmwere brought together was a great way to bring the viewer up to date.Even if the viewer didn't watch one Marvel movie or pick up a comicbook before this could comprehend what was going on. Marvel introducedone character at a time so that the viewer would not get all jumbled upand they would also show where the character has been of that time, notjust by plucking them from thin air. Now on to the bad of the movie. It was very hard to find the bad inthis movie but there were a few things that could be pointed out. Thefact that Marvel decided to only go with a select few of theircharacters and not bring all of them into this movie could have beenheart breaking for all of those Batman fans out there or even thelittle kid with his Spiderman underwear, but except for those few andvery small details The Avengers is a must see.

Marvel's Avengers is everything a movie should be, and more. It goeswithout saying that it's the best film of the year to date. There's aserious subtext to the story and great characterization throughout butits focus is on the amazing. As an adventure film, it really has noparallel. When a movie reinvents a popular genre, it speaks volumes. This movie does just that and accomplishes what they've promised ussince the first Iron Man movie... giving us that "bigger universe" inall its glory. The movie gets just about everything right but maybe its number onestrength is the casting coupled with the writing. Meaning that everycharacter has the perfect dialogue and every quality actor inhabits thehero they portray perfectly. Downey has Stark down cold but we knewthat already. He's just given the right stage to shine here. Evansfinds his pathos and his chops in this film as Steve Rogers. The BoyScout all-American has an edge this time around. Hemsworth's Thor hasunderstandable rationale for joining and doing what he does throughoutthe movie. His inner turmoil and guilt is exquisite. Tom Hiddlestoncertainly has the acting chops to hang with any movie villain EVER andhe's perfect because this is no one dimensional character and hismotivation and progression since the Thor film is seen and felt. SamuelL Jackson actually has something to do in this movie... PRAISE BE!Jeremy Renner is a nice addition and even with all the big guns chewingup every scene, he shines. Movie goers will want to see more of hischaracter in the future guaranteed. Scarlett Johansson adds to thecasting perfection. She's every bit the complex yet sexy female leadand a match for any male on screen. Would you expect any less from aJoss Whedon film? The interaction, conflict/turmoil and therelationships all work well and is definitely one of the highlights ofthe entire movie itself.Add some of the best kick-butt action sequences that I've ever seen andAvengers is what other movies will be measured to in the years thatfollow.
TomTomH (04 May 2013)
Avengers Assemble is the best superhero film ever made. I thought itwas better than The Dark Knight and as soon as it started, I felt likeseeing Harry Potter all over again at the cinema. It mainly follows upfrom 'Captain America: The First Avenger', 'Thor' and 'Iron Man 2',S.H.I.E.L.D boss Nick Fury brings together a group of human superheroeswho have different identities and events in their pasts: Iron Man(Robert Downey, Jr), Hulk (Edward Norton is out. Mark Ruffalo is in),Captain America (Chris Evans), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) with S.H.I.E.L.Dassassins: Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Hawkeye (Bourne Legacy'sJeremy Renner) to stop a villain from destroying earth forever. Themassive battle scene is incredible. Strangely enough besides thatthere's a bit more laughter in this than any other SH film. I don'tknow how the sequel's going to turn out to be. After you've seen thisyou'll be asking the same question as me: how will it make it biggerand better? It's like 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon' but the autobotsreplaced as Marvel superheroes, without Shia LaBeouf and decepticonsreplaced as the villain's giant army.

One of the most anticipated movies is here and the name is avengers, themovie was good overall with good caste and excellent VFX.the USP of thefilm was that the effects are really good and humor isexcellent, watching the super heroes battle it out with each other andthe evil is even better .A lot of humor and mix of action ideally makes this movie a summerblockbuster for sure. The editing is excellent and the characterbuilding is fantastic ,The director has tried to give each superheroit's due except the thor which seems to have a sort of subdued entry inthe movie :(.Anyways,it is fun surely the 3D is better than most of thecrap which comes out calling it 3d,so do watch it 3d.Now Why the hell did I give it 7 and not 10/10? the reason is that: wasslow in the first half, yea they wanted to build the story alright butit was kinda slow for me,I was expecting a lot more action in the firsthalf which was absent apart from 2 fights which I won't spoil it foryou guys.Second half was much better but I felt the action was limited, thesuperhero fights were mishmash-ed.They were certainly not enough.Iwanted more superhero fights, more drama, more action.it just didn'thappen. The ending was not very great either,We have Seen these sorta endingsmany times. We want something new, specially being avengers, common guys..So for me Avengers is above average movie/Good Movie but certainly notthe best.7/10!

I've been watching Joss Whedon's work since Buffy The Vampire Slayerwas first released and my god he just gets better and better. Not only did he write a fabulous script for The Avengers but hedirected the hell out of it too - it was brilliant, perfect comedyelements mixed in with eye-popping action. Some people complained in reviews of the movie saying that there weretoo many strong personalities in the lead and one character seemed toshine above the others but that's just not true - they all shine intheir own way! Robert Downey Jr with his exquisite technical lingo,Mark Ruffalo with his anger management, Chris Hemsworth with hisAustralian godliness, Jeremy Renner with his gorgeous lips, ScarlettJohansson with her bendiness, Tom Hiddleston with his best of Britishbad boy attitude, Chris Evans with his pure of heart and last but by nomeans least Samuel L Jackson who in my eyes is just awesome (whateverhe is doing)!

Hype was filled in the air as this star-filled, action packed, superhero movie was about to come to U.S. theaters. In my opinion, allof the hype was delightfully fulfilled after its release. The Avengerssmashed the box office and grossed over $1.5 billion worldwide becomingthe third highest-grossing film of all time.Let's first take a look at this all-star cast. Robert Downey, Jr. playsa billionaire playboy philanthropist named Tony Stark (Iron Man). Thisis the second best performance in a superhero type movie that I haveever seen; next to Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. He brings a lot ofwit and charisma to the film which is a big part why it became assuccessful as it was. Chris Hemsworth plays Thor, who is the crownprince of Asgard. His Spartan-like appearance and acting skills is thereason why I think Chris was the perfect choice to play Thor. Myfavorite part is when Thor fought with Captain America (due to CaptainAmerica being chosen as the leader) because it was so unexpected.Speaking of Captain America (Steve Rogers), he is played by Chris Evanswhose physic is perfect for this role. His character is adequatelydeveloped throughout the movie. Mark Ruffalo's acting as the Hulk (Dr.Bruce Banner) I thought was very good. Joss Whedon got great use out ofthe hulk for the limited time he was in there. The epic battle withLoki at the end when the hulk smashes Loki was a highlight of the film.Whedon use of the hulk's strength is brilliant and even sometimeshumorous. Scarlett Johansson plays Black Widow (Natasha Romanoff) inthe film. Her charm and sexy looks bode well with the character. Beinga woman in superhero movie seems like it would be a tough challenge, but she hit the nail on the coffin. My favorite scene with her is whenshe is being violently interrogated by a trio of gangsters. Thegangsters reveal their master plan before Johansson breaks out of thechair and takes down all three men. This scene showed her amazingacrobatic ability.Jeremy Renner plays Hawkeye, a very skillful marksman. He seemed toplay this role very confidently and was almost flawless throughout themovie. For every superhero movie, there's always a villain. The villain in TheAvengers is named Loki and is played by Tom Hiddleston. In my opinionhis acting is superb. He plays the character of a very menacing and madman. The minor characters (Clark Gregg as Phil Coulson, Samuel L.Jackson as Nick Fury, Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill, and StellanSkarsgard as Dr. Erik Selvig) are all decent at their respected roles.Although, I think Samuel L. Jackson should have had more airtime as thedirector of S.H.I.E.L.D. The plot unfolds very quickly in this action-packed movie. Withoutspoiling the movie, I will access the basic plot structure. Nick Furry, who is the leader of the peacekeeping agency known as S.H.I.E.L.D, andBlack Widow have to assemble a special group to combat Thor's evilbrother Loki after he takes the cosmic cube and uses his scepter tobrainwash Dr. Selvig and multiple agents, including Hawkeye in order tohelp him in his getaway. The heroes have a hard time working togetherbut eventually learn how to. Bruce Banner (Hulk) plays an importantrole because he helps track down the artifact's gamma signals. The plotis developed very nicely and is exactly what a superhero movie shouldbe. The graphics and for this film is superb to say the least, especiallyon blue ray. The fact that most of the filming for this movie wasactually filmed in a big city (mostly New York and Cleveland), ratherthan a made up Hollywood set, gives it a feeling of realism and anillusion that the viewer is actually in the movie. The special effects are second to none in The Avengers. The hugeexplosions, giant hole opening up in the air, Hawkeye falling out ofthe sky and shooting his arrow, and hulk smashing Loki are just a fewof many excellent examples of amazing special effects.Overall, I would give this film two thumbs up. The flawless acting, explosive plot, superb graphics, and excellent special effects all addup to a perfect superhero movie. I would recommend this movie to anyperson who loves action-packed, superhero films.

What can I say- I grew up with these guys in the 70's - being anEnglish boy it was not so common to be reading these comics at 10rather than Whizzer and Chips; et al, but I always loved Marvel forbeing more "real" (yeh I Know - these are Superheroes were talkingabout, I did stop collecting them by the time I was an adult - but yeh- I still got them all!).It was a childhood dream to imagine seeing these characters in a film, but film attempts were always so lame until CGI took hold. The X-Men (1 & 2 & 1st Class,) Spiderman (1,2 and, yes 3) Iron Man &Thor films finally met my childhood expectations. The Avengers has beenthe icing on the cake. The only disappointment for me is: Where areJanet, Hank, Wanda, Pietro & The Vision..will patience! Comics asideit's a great bundle of cinematic fun!

The Marvel comic book based films have made millions at the box office, and everybody must have been thrilled with a number of the bestsuperheroes of the series being put together in the same film, andpresuming you have seen the previous films with them it has beenbuilding up to this. Basically Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson), directorof S.H.I.E.L.D., is meeting some colleagues in a remote facility wherethe energy source the Tesseract has been found and activated, opening agateway transporting the Norse god Loki (Tom Hiddleston) from Asgard toEarth. He steals the powerful cube and takes over the minds ofpersonnel like Clint Barton aka Hawkeye (The Hurt Locker's JeremyRenner) and Dr. Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgård), and this forces Furyto reactivate the Avengers Initiative, recruiting some of the world'smost powerful and special heroes, starting with Natasha Romanoff akaBlack Widow (Scarlett Johansson). She goes to find Bruce Banner aka TheHulk (Mark Ruffalo) who is hiding somewhere in India for his scientificknowledge of the Tesseract - no mention of "The Other Guy", while AgentPhil Coulson (Clark Gregg) approaches Tony Stark aka Iron Man (RobertDowney Jr.) who also has technological knowledge - and his powerfulmechanical suit, and Fury also brings Steve Rogers aka Captain America(Chris Evans) up to date with the situation, and he is still trying toget used to the modern world. While Loki disappeared into the abyss hewas approached by the alien race the Chitauri, led by The Other (AlexisDenisof), and they came to an agreement that if they got the Tesseractthey would help him take over the Earth. Suited up, Captain America andIron Man travel to Germany where Loki is meant to be hiding and tryingto ignite and stabilise the power of the cube, showing his evil intentto many people kneeling before him, he surrenders though when theyfight and catch him. In this process though the villain's half-brotherThor (Chris Hemsworth) arrives, also transported from Asgard, and heplans to take and deal with him in his own way, and this turns into afight between him, Iron Man and Captain America, but it eventuallystops. Loki is placed into a cell, designed to hold The Hulk inside ifBanner turns, and now with Thor recruited as well the Avengers argueabout how to handle the alien dictator, and there is the revelationthat S.H.I.E.L.D. plan to harness the Tesseract to develop weapons.Fury explains that he heard about what happened in Mexico, when Thorwas previously on Earth, and that the attack makes Earth an easytarget, and the weapons will be good defence for a similar attack, andas the argument continues Loki's mind controlled agents infiltrate theship, the Helicarrier. Captain America and Iron Man try to start theengines again, while Thor tries fight against Banner who has become TheHulk and may destroy the ship from the inside, and fighting withBarton, Romanoff discovers a hard hit to the head will knock possessedpeople back to normal. In the struggle Loki kills Agent Coulson andescapes the ship, Banner as Hulk and Thor are ejected from the ship andfall to the ground, and Fury uses the death of Coulson to encourage theAvengers left to come together, work as a team and save the world. Theyknow that the villain wants to become ruler as well as destroy cities, and using Dr. Selbig he has created a device to open the gateway andallow the Chitauri to invade and attack Manhattan, and it is up toCaptain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Thor and The Hulk tosave the day. In the end, after Dr. Selvig is revived, so muchexplosive fighting, and a prevented missile blowing up in space, Lokiis taken back with the Tesseract by Thor to Asgard, the Avengers gotheir separate ways, until a new threat to the world emerges, and thefinal scene sees The Other meeting his master, who turns and revealshimself to be Thanos. Also starring Cobie Smulders as Agent Maria Hill,Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts, Paul Bettany as Jarvis, Sudden Death'sPowers Boothe as World Security Council, Jenny Agutter as WorldSecurity Council, Harry Dean Stanton as Security Guard, Lou Ferrignoand the voice of The Hulk and Stan Lee. The cast are all fantastic,Downey Jr. with all the quips, Evans as the sensible fighter, Ruffaloas the man trying to control his temper, Hensworth as the arrogantwarrior, Johansson as the confident female, and Jackson as theintelligent controller. It should be noted that the title was changedin Britain because there would be confusion with the HonorBlackman/Dianna Rigg TV series, and also there were small complaintsabout Spider-Man and Wolverine absent, but it doesn't matter. Anyway, the story and scripting are very well made, and what steals the show isthe brilliantly paced fight sequences filled with the most spectacularand ground breaking special effects to create all the superhero gadgetsand gimmicks, invading creatures, and constant explosions, this isdefinitely one of the greatest superhero movies of the last few years,a must see action fantasy. It was nominated the Oscar for Best VisualEffects, and it was nominated the BAFTA for Special Visual Effects.Very good!

I hate this movie. There, I said it. I watched it in theaters and cameout mildly entertained but disappointed, and I re-watched it againrecently, only to hate it. This is a poorly written mess whose awfulwriting has somehow gone unnoticed by everyone I know. To all thosepeople who haven't seen this movie yet, let me spare you the trouble:Marvel's The Avengers, sucks. For starters, out of the five movies made before this, I only saw threeof them, and of those three, only one was actually good (Iron Man).Iron Man 2 was a boring mess, and Thor was more of the same, only withNatalie Portman, so that made it worse. The Avengers takes all thesesuperheroes, most of which I never heard of, and throws them alltogether for the first time in cinematic history. An impressive feat;but if the Harry Potter movies were any indication, just because it'san interesting idea, doesn't always mean it is good. Usually it meansit's total c***. The good: the actors look the roles. Whoever cast Chris Hemsworth asThor deserves a raise because he looks perfect. Robert Downey Jr. lookslike Tony Stark, Chris Evans is Captain America, and so on and so on.The acting isn't all memorable, with Downey just doing what he does inevery single movie he is in, i.e. play the annoying guy. Zodiac (greatmovie by the way), Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (another fun movie), and theIron man films, there is not one character who could not be swapped outfor another and make any difference. The Bad: basically everything else. Joss Whedon, in my opinion, is astraight up hack. Never mind the fact that he wrote the god-awful AlienResurrection, but in this movie his writing is just lazy. So manythings that make no sense happen and the feeling I get is that thoseare things that I should overlook because "it's a comic book movie."No, why can a shield developed in the 1940s withstand the full force ofa Norse God!? If this stuff was so lightweight and powerful, why didn'tIron Man make his suit out of it? Why does Loki want to take over theworld when, in Thor, he explicitly stated he never wanted power? Thereare so many other things that make no sense, but this reviews got toend sometime The final battle in this mess takes place in New York, and it is themost boring, least engaging battle since the battle of Chicago inTransformers: Dark of the Moon. Yes, this movie is on par withTransformers. None of the characters are likable, none of the actionscenes are thrilling, the humor comes of as cheap and fails, Loki'sarmy is the most useless army out there, etc. etc. This movie is a disaster, a titanic failure of a film. Not just becauseits a boring horribly written piece of s***, but because to me itrepresents Marvel's laziness. They know their films make lots of money,so they keep cranking out one awful movie after another. First it wasIron Man 2, then it was Thor, now it was the Avengers, and, notdeciding to wait a year, they released the awful Amazing Spiderman. These guys take less time to wait for their next product thanActivision does with Call of Duty. With the announcement of the Avengers 2, Spiderman 2, Thor 2, Iron Man3, Captain America 2, and probably Hulk 2, I gotta ask, when does thisend? When will Marvel finally just kill their entire business and stopmaking awful movies, or at the very least, don't hire Joss Whedon. *Side Note: No I am not a DC fanboy writing this scathing review simplybecause it is a Marvel film. I am writing this because I truly detestedthis film, the fact that is just so happens to be Marvel is acoincidence.

Epic, It's a must watch because I had been waiting for this movie for along time and now that i saw it, it was worth the wait. Everything wasperfect, the actors did an incredible job, the them was phenomenal, mysiblings enjoyed it (but i think i enjoyed it even more)I suggest that you stay after the credits, there is something more thathints the next Avengers movie and some people might like it, somepeople wont like it at all. I have been reading comics since i wasyoung and never in my early years would i ever imagine a movie so epicthat would make me think back to those times i read the comics. I gaveit a 10/10 because it deserves it and you can tell that they put hardwork and dedication into it.

It pains me to say that because I was a Spiderman fan growing up andSpiderman started off this Superhero crazed movie run with what was thebest movie. What made Spiderman stand apart was that it was a greatmovie and a great Superhero movie. Well, move over because Avengers didmost everything right enough to at least have a discussion of whetherSpiderman 1 or Avengers 1 was the better movie. It might have helpedthat I do not know the Avenger lore as well as I knew others, buteveryone else is in agreement. I am reluctant about this statement, because you hear something is the best ever and then it never lives up.I read a lot of hype in these pages before I went and saw it. Now Ihave seen it and must agree with the hype. One thing I was afraid of: Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk, which I am alittle still out on, but I do like Mark Ruffalo, but made Bruce Bannera little too weak/effeminate. It comes together nicely though. Anotherwas ScarJo. Yes, she is sexy enough(understatement) but was sheathletic enough to carry it out and she did well enough. Anotherproblem, the bravado/"egos" of the characters, not stars, butcharacters of such a movie would demand a lot of screen time for eachone to make this work. That would be a problem if it was notaccomplished. The movie was very good on this point. Cobie, Robin fromHow I met Your Mother, was a bit of a distraction for me in a secondaryrole, but did a competent job. The most interesting thing for me was that Joss Whendon was Directorand Writer. He created Buffy/ Angel, Firefly/Dollhouse. I wondered howhe would do with such mainstream fair and he managed to bringeverything together almost perfectly. I say almost because there is onebit that is missing. It is somewhat minor, but who taught Bruce Bannerthe secret to control his angry green side. That is the only piecemissing for me.For those that want specifics: effects were top notch, acting wasexcellent, story lines were compelling, the comedy was perfect 99.5% ofthe time and surprise there were a lot of one line typical superherozingers that worked really well.I think you will enjoy this movie, unless you only enjoy completelyrealistic movies.

I saw this movie without any expectations, the trailer did not enticeme at all but took my 11 year old and 16 year old son, of course I sawthe high ratings from IMDb and thought OK I got to go see it.My first impression was totally predictable, second not at allimpressed with the 3 d effects so, I guess I have to sum it up toeither At the age of 46 I am way to old old. But then again I was not abig transformers fan.Everyone said this movie was really funny OK was it the dry homor orthe hulk slapping Thor, in any case did not fall off my seat laughing. The rest of the story line was kind of mondane but. I guess this iswhat people today are looking for in a film.
Tony Bush (25 April 2013)
It's good-enough entertainment for what it is, and what it is is OK byme.Ultimately a CGI superhero bun fight with lots of noise and eye-meltingvisual FX. Indeed, there is some significant measure of wit andgravitas in the principal performances and it's altogether, insummation, a very jolly, non-threatening and unchallenging exercise inpopcorn artistry on a grand scale. And you know pretty much how it'sgoing to end before it begins. So no need to worry about any of thecharacters or invest too much concern or emotional currency.Worthy of all the hype, resultant adulation and strikingly impressivebox office cash-cow achievement? Probably not. But then that's animpossible reputation to live up to. It's never going to be as good asit's made out to be in terms of most people's honest expectations -even if they feel they can't admit it - but then again, whatever is?The first hour is moderately tedious and draggy and takes it's ownsweet time about re-introducing characters, thumbnail sketching them, and setting up the story. A bunch of aliens are waging war on the world, coordinated by Thor'sevil brother Loki. The world in this case is Manhattan. Why? Who knows.Just is. Only a brave but mismatched band of spandex-wearing,armour-clad, god-like or accidentally mutated super-dudes stand intheir way. Not exactly original as narratives go, but it's only a hookto hang the CGI action on after all. It's not there to be inventive orinnovative. Complexity need not apply in this particular universe. The whole point is the action - a dynamic eye-candy smörgåsbord offights, explosions, gunfire, detonating machinery, devastation andmayhem in all it's high-spec CGI glory. A beautiful computerisedcartoon of dazzlingly destructive technical wizardry. And on this scoreit delivers impeccably.Kudos to the cast for instilling some crucial human elements into thecharacters they play, deftly aided and abetted by some astute dialoguefrom Whedon. The sly and self-aware way in which he overloads theexchanges between Stark and Banner with meaningless technologicalgibberish that he just knows is utter rubbish is very smartlysatirical. Arch cardboard ciphers made self-knowing and appealing. In terms of the characters, though, what strikes most is out of all ofthem the one who ends up being the most emotionally engaging, charismatic and sympathetic is the one who is a complete CGI render -The Hulk. Maybe this says something pertinent about modern cinema andmodern movie acting. Food for thought, perhaps? As superhero movies go, it's amusing, entertaining, watchable andspectacularly burns into the retinas with the best of them. Better thanBATDUDE or SPIDERGUY? Subjective, but I enjoyed it more than a lot ofthe other stuff around. There are long stretches of boredom in mostsuperhero movies, but apart from the (probably necessary) preamble,AVENGERS avoids the customary slog. The fact of the matter is that whensuperheros in superhero flicks are not doing their stuff as superherosin superhero flicks there ain't much of great interest going on. And itcan bore.AVENGERS is a Michael Bay movie with wit, charm, some heart and careand more of a brain in the driving seat. Whedon taps into theconsciousness of the crowd in order to understand what makes a crowdpleaser. He's a smart guy who has studied the psychology and identifiedwhere people like Bay and Emmerich get it wrong, thus avoiding thosepitfalls and getting it mostly right.I enjoyed it. I'll probably watch it again and enjoy it again. Afterthat, though, doubt it will need a further revisit any time soon.

This movie rocked on so many levels it is hard to know where to begin. From story, to cinematography, to perfect use of CGI, to humour, tomusic, to stuff blowin' up real good... Avengers proved beyond a shadowof a doubt that Hollywood has NOT forgotten how to make an entertainingmovie. As a lifelong Hulk fan, I was blown away by Ruffalo's depiction ofBruce Banner and his big green friend was entirely awesome! AlthoughHulk/Banner was clearly my favourite, not a single character in thismovie felt wasted, underused or overdone. They meshed seamlessly forthe tasks at hand after being well introduced to Marvel newcomers overthe first 50 minutes or so.Absolutely MUST SEE cinema, on the big screen. Movies like this werewhy we invented popcorn and IMAX. Not only is it the best superheromovie of all time...it is one of the greatest movies of any genre evermade.
DarthVoorhees (22 April 2013)
'The Avengers' is a brilliant cartoon with tremendous flair, style, andmore than it's share of silliness. Director Joss Whedon is allowed freereign to present a massive spectacle of action and destruction and itis often very visually spectacular and often more than fun. Is 'TheAvengers' the comic book masterpiece awaited for years by geekseverywhere? No. It isn't even Marvel's best offering as an independentstudio. The only level 'The Avengers' really succeeds on is being ahuge cartoon. It offers nothing truly unique in realm of dealing withthese characters or their mythology. If the modern day comic book is aromanticized colorful dissection of hero worship and good and evil as Iand a great many comic book fans like to think it is than Joss Whedonhas ultimately failed in respecting that and using it to give hisaudiences something to chew on. In a great many ways I found myselfbrought back to the horrendous experience last summer of watchinganother huge action spectacle, 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon'. 'TheAvengers' is in many ways the same movie, neither have any sense ofstakes other than to make sequels. Iron Man, Captain America, TheIncredible Hulk, and Thor are here to sell toys and tickets.Epicness is what is on the table in this film and Joss Whedon surelydoes deliver an epic action packed film. Delivering an action packedfilm isn't all that hard to do though. There are no stakes to 'TheAvengers'. Missing is a sense of dread and threat. I wanted our heroesto really be tested by something bigger than themselves and theyaren't. I sing the praises of Christopher Nolan's 'The Dark Knight' andyou know what Jon Favreau's first 'Iron Man' film because they trulybrought our characters to a point where they had to question what madethem heroes and if being a hero was more than just paraphernalia. Bothfilms created tremendously strong villains which served asrepresentations of all that could be corrupted and made evil within thetitle heroes. The threat in 'The Avengers' comes in the form of apretty lame mcguffin. We find out next to nothing about the tesseractcube other than it can blow stuff up in a Michael Bay-esque fashion. The threat to our heroes is pretty dull and lackluster. Often ourheroes have to spend time reminding us they are saving the worldbecause we forget. I wanted to be reminded that our heroes bleed andcan die. Kill off a sacrificial lamb and keep me interested. (I knowthe retort here about Clark Gregg's Agent Coulson and he is a very funcharacter but he merely serves as a second rate sidekick)I think every actor in here is having a blast in their roles and I loveseeing it. I don't necessarily think they are all taking their rolesseriously but I do think they are engaging all the great things thatmake these characters pulp icons. My favorite performance has to be TomHiddleston as Loki. Loki isn't all that rounded a villain or characterbut Hiddleston loves the comic book nature of the character. Saying youwant to take over the world often is a silly empty threat and yet ifsomeone says it the right way it is fun.The final battle scene is grand as promised. Is it fun? Yes. That issomething I do want to reiterate because the film is fun. There issomething to be said about enjoying eye candy and things blowing up.'The Avengers' is a masterpiece if that is what we are concerned with.Does the battle go on too long? I didn't check my watch nearly as muchas I did during 'Dark of the Moon' but yes it is drawn out. I think Iwouldn't feel this way though had the problems mentioned earlier beenaddressed. The chitauri are just plot pieces and even though we see ourheroes take some hits never do we see any real toil this has on them. What is 'The Avengers' a cartoon. The kid in me was satisfied with allthe action but the adult in me wanted more.I think with 'The Avengers' we have a cinematic Rorschach with everyonegetting something they want out of it and rating it much higher than ittruly deserves. I saw it opening weekend and have pondered over itamidst the fanfare. Is it a good film? Yes, if you hold it up as asummer blockbuster it is an exceptional fun filled ride. Is it asubstantive film? No, if you want a substantive comic book film thansee 'The Dark Knight' or 'Iron Man'.

This movie is just for people who can't grow up, there is no smartmoves, only pure special effects with no meaning behind, a joke. Thisexplains why there are so many 40 yo men living like children outthere. Like a man in a much better film said: "God **** it, an entire generation pumping gas, waiting tables; slaveswith white collars. Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy **** we don't need. We're the middlechildren of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. NoGreat Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war our Great Depressionis our lives." Think about it, do you really want to have fun with this nonsenseentertainment, without thinking even for a second?.

When i went to go watch "The Avengers" I thought it was going to begreat, and it turns out it was {in my opinion}. The movie hadcomedy, and action. The part when Hulk punches Thor during thebattle, and how Hulk met Loki in the Stark building, and when Loki wastalking to Hulk,Hulk grabbed him and starting to swing him around, throwing him on the floor, those were some of the funny parts. Therewere also parts when you would get up on your seat and cheer, forexample the battle scenes. I gotta say it was great making this moviefinally come to theaters. Best Marvel movie so far. Hope you guys alsolike it when you see Marvel "The Avengers".

One of the lucky few to watch the film early. premiered here in Nairobiyesterday (27th of April) Didn't think it could be pulled off with allthe characters in play but marvel did a great one on this.Iron man, hulk, captain America, Thor, black widow, hawk eye and Lokiplaying the villain.A number of very good match ups between the heroes... cool stuff.Story line was good, each hero had considerable screen time, Loki playsthe villain role very well and all the characters came good.watching it again this weekend...Its gonna break d bank...
