What made the original Toy Story so great, besides its significant achievement as the first-ever feature-length computer animated film, was its ability to instantly transport viewers into a magical world where it seemed completely plausible that toys were living, thinking beings who sprang to life the minute they were alone and wanted nothing more than to be loved and played with by their children. Toy Story 3 absolutely succeeds in the very same thing--adults and children alike, whether theyve seen the original film or not, find themselves immediately immersed in a world in which Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), Jessie (Joan Cusack), Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head (Don Rickles and Estelle Harris), Ham (John Ratzenberger), Rex (Wallace Shawn), the aliens, and the rest of Andys toys remain completely devoted to Andy (John Morris) even as hes getting ready to pack up and leave for college. Woody scoffs at the other toys worries that theyll end up in the garbage, assuring them that theyve earned a spot of honor in the attic, but when the toys are mistakenly donated to Sunnyside Daycare, Woody is the only toy whose devotion to Andy outweighs the promise of getting played with each and every day. Woody sets off toward home alone while the other toys settle in for some daycare fun, but things dont turn out quite as expected at the daycare thanks to the scheming, strawberry-scented old-timer bear Lots-o-Huggin (Ned Beatty). Eventually, Woody rejoins his friends and they all attempt a daring escape from the daycare, which could destroy them all. The pacing of the film is impeccable at this point, although the sense of peril may prove almost too intense for a few young viewers. Pixars 3-D computer animation is top-notch as always and the voice talent in this film is tremendous, but in the end, its Pixars uncanny ability to combine drama, action, and humor in a way that irresistibly draws viewers into the world of the film that makes Toy Story 3 such great family entertainment. Do not miss

This movie is a rare gem that deserves to be praised in every singleway possible. It follows it's predecessors in honourable fashion and itis my absolute pleasure to say "Amazing job Pixar!" The whole film is a well rounded, well thought out, well produced, wellmade masterpiece. Picture it as a painting. Years of hard work, sleepless nights, long working days, blood, sweat and tears all amountto this one object. Yet to us, the unsuspecting audience, it appears asan effortlessly constructed diamond. Every aspect of it is beautifuland once it has finally been pulled together it just 'works'.The new scenarios the characters we all know and love are thrust into, the brand new cast that we don't know particularly well yet but soonwill be like they have been our friends for many years and thespectacular ending that will make your eyes start to water and a bigsmile slowly make it's way across your face; all make it worth whilepaying for the DVD. But to be honest, I would extremely happily pay alarge sum of money to see this film because it is a film that needs tobe seen by every single person on the planet. If you are sitting atyour desk reading this review and haven't see Toy Story 3 yet, then getyourself to the supermarket and buy this film now.I can guarantee that you will enjoy this film. Toy Story 3 is brilliantin every way, go see it!

Pixar delivers yet again!

Pixar has consistently achieved something few animation studios canhonestly say: crafting a children's movie that adults find entertainingand brilliant at the same time. Most movies fall short in this respect(yes, I'm thinking of you, Planet 51).Toy Story 3 is in no way different. In fact, this movie in particularstands out. Maybe it's because it was so anticipated during the 11years in which Pixar took a break from the series. Maybe it's becauseyou see familiar, lovable characters, while at the same time smoothlyintroducing new ones. No matter what the reason, Toy Story 3 is one ofthe best movies Pixar has crafted, Up and Toy Story 2 giving it a hardtime. There is nothing I hate more than spoilers, so I won't give away toomany details about this movie. But I can do my best to convince allparents out there to take any children to see this movie. If it's theirfirst, good. It will expose them to what a good movie is. And try anddrag along that reluctant teenager. I'll bet he'll enjoy it too.But again, Toy Story 3 stands out in the respect that adults love ittoo. So even if you don't happen to have any children, or just want toget away from them, I highly recommend Toy Story 3.

How in the world did Pixar make adults CRY over TOYS??!

The best magic tricks in the world are ones that cannot be unraveled, reverse engineered or dissected to figure out exactly how they arepulled off. This philosophy is doubly applicable to Pixar's "Toy Story3", the storyline-ending outro of the beloved Toy Story, uh, story.I feel it relevant somehow to divulge my age, as it somehow validatesthe powerful emotions evoked throughout the film. I am a 28 year oldmale, who, fifteen years ago, was fresh into the teen years of supposedadolescence at the release of some weird, 3d animated movie (wait, theycan animate with computers?) entitled "Toy Story". This was a prettybold move, a calculated stroll to the edge of the cliff and a daringleap off into the thin air of creativity and innovation. And it was ahit, ensuring 3d animation a place right alongside (more or less) 2danimation. And naturally, Pixar would be at the forefront, leading thecavalry charge of digital animation ranging from great to gawd-awful."Toy Story 3" starts off as comfortably as possible, with our friendsWoody and Buzz Lightyear doing what they do the best...playing withAndy in his world of make-believe adventure. We are then treated tosome familiar Pixar progression, like abandonment, solidarity, comingback to friends, and the passing of the torch. Clearly, in the elevenyears between this point and when "Toy Story 2" wrapped, a computerrevolution or four has occurred, allowing a world of unsurpassedclarity, reality and imagination to shine through like never before.TS1's spark is TS2's candle, and that in turn is TS3's blazing sun.Roll the last fifteen minutes of film. It became clearly obvious thatthe figurative tables have been turned, because a good number of theadults in the audience (including myself) were sniffling andteary-eyed, while the kids were looking up, likely thinking "jeez momand dad, they're just toys, get over it".Wasn't it conventional wisdom that just the kids get emotional overlosing plastic playthings? With "Toy Story 3", Pixar has shown us oneof the greatest magic tricks in modern showbiz history, likely not tobe outdone or duplicated, that we all have very real and deepconnections to our childhoods and to the things and people that allowedus as kids to be free, and innocent, and pure, and most importantly, todream. This, to me, is a life lesson worth remembering, to infinity andbeyond."Toy Story 3" gets 10 of 10 blazing stars

Best Motion Picture of the Year Indeed!

Toy Story came out November 22, 1995 just 2 weeks before my sixthbirthday. Naturally, I became obsessed with it as it was funny,nail-biting, and had an awesome toy to play with: Buzz Lightyear! ThatChristmas I had my parents frantically searching high and low for aBuzz Lightyear action doll in a period of weeks that i'm sure resembledthat of "Jingle All the Way's" infamous shopping scene. As timeprogressed, Buzz became a regular cast member in my various imaginativeventures through childhood. Him and I also revisited Woody and the gangcountless times with my VHS copy of the movie...needless to say it gotdamn-near worn out.I was excited when I saw the first preview for Toy Story 2, as it wasreleased just 2 weeks before my tenth birthday. However, slightdisappointment ensued at the end credits and I could only describe thesequel in comparison to the first movie as "weird." I was not pleasedentirely with the journey the second film had taken me on. Not to sayit didn't have it's funny moments (the return of "space ranger buzz"and even Bullseye was cute), but all-in-all it was NOT the first one!So I did not end up with a VHS copy of that one, and continued throughthe rest of my childhood with cherishing the memory of Toy Story andhaving only snippets of memory for Toy Story 2.Through my teens I lost the eternal love for Toy Story that I had oncehad. So when they released the first two back in theaters in 3-D lastyear I did have a slight desire to see them as I remembered Toy Storyas being "that movie I used to love when I was a kid" and Toy Story 2as "that movie I had only seen once or twice and can't remember why momand dad never bought it for me," but alas this was not enough for me toactively jump at this chance to see them again like i had neverimagined them (obviously I have some regrets now). I also knew that the3-D event was an intentional precursor to Toy Story 3 in 3-D happeningthe following year. I had my doubts about the movie of course (i hadseen what happened to Shrek), but having fell in love with severalPixar movies in the previous years (Finding Nemo, Wall-E, UP) I hadfaith that it would not be terrible. So earlier this year I rented Toy Story 1 & 2 so I could refresh mymemory. Toy Story was the most fantastic trip through memory lane Ihave ever experienced as it was exactly how I remembered it as a kid.EXACTLY! I was a teary-eyed at this revelation that some part of mychildhood had not been tarnished by my new-found adult criticism ofmovies. Toy Story 2, however, was significantly better than Iremembered it as a kid, but it was still NOT the first one, nor is itone of my favorite Pixar movies. After reviewing the first two moviesagain, I have become obsessed with collecting everything Toy Story Ican get my hands on. I even unburied my old Buzz Lightyear Toy and havehim sitting on my shelf with my other collected items from the movies. All this excitement made me more than eager to see the third (andapparently final) installment of the series. I found myself alreadytearing up at the beginning of the movie as the old home videos fromAndy's childhood set up the finality-theme of the movie. I wasn't readyto say goodbye just yet, luckily for me I didn't have to as I had onemore very dark journey to go on with my old friends. This movie playedwith my child-like feelings towards the toys as I was emotionallystressed from the extreme peril they were placed in, and unable tofully accept the changes happening. On the other hand, I was in awe ofthe flawless technology that had went into making the movie: a greatparalleled observation as Toy Story was Pixar's first movie and ToyStory 3 had come a long way from it's 1990's technology and arguablyreigns as Pixar's greatest triumph 15 years later. I cried passionatelywhen the toys were about to face certain oblivion, and I bawled like ababy when Andy said good-bye while playing with them one last time. This just proves how magical Pixar films really are. Dreamworkscertainly would NEVER be able to make you cry over the fate of a bunchof plastic toys, or over the fate of any character they could create. In a nutshell: Toy Story 3 means more to me than any film I will eversee and lived past its expectations. I share the affection towardsBarbie and Ken's scenes as the rest of the world does, and believe thatit was the perfect cherry on top of a great trilogy. This movie will bea strong contender for Best Picture at the Oscars...and is arguably thecertain one to win along with screenplay, director, animated feature, and visual effects.Pixar has really outdone themselves and has effortlessly put all othermovie-distributing companies (even you Disney! That crap you callmovies that you have been releasing in the past couple of years hasbeen shameful!) to shame. I only hope they don't trip on their egos onthe journey to making the upcoming Cars 2 and Monster's Inc. 2 (both ofwhich's predecessors I did not care too much for).

Disappointed but I love the movie

I am going to start this of by saying I love Pixar and subsequently Toy Story. I have grown up with this series, as Andy has grown up. I too have loved these toys. I have all the movies, I know the lines. I saw this movie in the theater twice. I already knew that I had a connection with this movie as I had with all the others. There is a problem though. I have a Blu-Ray player, and I love the HD images that usually come from it. Except for tonight. For three hours I tried to get this movie to work for me on the Blu-Ray. When I first put it in I had to wait a bit, and was happy when I finally saw the menu. Was briefly disappointed until I noticed that you could use another menu that is ENHANCED. So I clicked on that. Nothing happened. My excitement for this movie quickly dwindled. I was expecting to watch the extremely entertaining Night and Day short film by Pixar in HD. I could not. Nor can I see Buzz Lightyear talking about Space with his friends. I put in the second disk and lo and behold it would not play hoping maybe then that I might be able to watch the short films like that. No. So I put the first disk back in, but then it would not work. I used about everyway I could think of to get the movie to play, but it would not work for me. So I went back to the store and got a new copy of the movie. This one also does not work with my Blu-Ray player, even after I had the software updated. I can still not view my short films. I am actually very disappointed with that since I love Pixar. I would recommend the movie to anyone, but skip the Blu-Ray. It only causes problems.

Woody's insistence on rallying everyone back to their bedroom makes him the toy box Tina Turner, and the flick is smart enough to know it.

The Ending's Made Thiz Toy's a Winner!

I always believe "Toy Story" in 1995 is the first brick of Pixar'sgrandiose castle. 15 years go by, Pixar's getting more creative andstronger, not just in technology innovation but also in story. Now forcarrying their important Icon in "Toy Story 3", of course they willbring out the best of them. Two earlier prequels (include "Toy Story 2"in 1999) directed by John Lasseter. But on thiz reunion, The Directoris Lee Unkrich, the former Co-Director of "Monster, Inc." (2001) and mybest Pixar's choice of all-time "Finding Nemo" (2003). It tells 17years old Andy will be heading to college, now all his toys are injeopardy. They are facing dilemma, will be given away to charity orbeing dump in attic. The familiar characters almost share in equalproportion, whether the cowboys Woody (Tom Hanks) and Jessie (JoanCusack), the space ranger Buzz (Tim Allen), the fussy Mr. and Mrs.Potato Head, the dumb dinosaur Rex, the follower Slinky Dog, the pinkypiggy Hamm and three little green Aliens, plus introducing new foe,strawberry-scented huggin' bear called Lotso and his fierce gangs. Inoverall, thiz movie filled with well-arranged story and fun dialogue. From the opening, the adventure already comes with explosive actionscene and follows along almost three-quarter of film. The story-tellingis very fast, there's almost no breathing room. I almost thought thizmovie was just similar to the prequels before. But something'shappened, the ending shocked me. The power of thiz movie is on its 15minutes ending (Spoiler Alert!), where Andy passed all his toys toneighbor's kid, Bonnie. He introduced one by one his toys and playedwith her. That heartwarming scene was so touching. The ending's madethiz toy's a winner. Once again, Pixar takes us to another level withits winning-theme, to infinity and beyond.Visit My Blog on JONNY'S MOVEE : http://jonnyfendi.blogspot.com

I hope this is the last Toy Story...a fitting and moving final chapter that takes the premise of the first movie to its logical conclusion.

Very Good, but maybe a little strong

As I watched in the theater a little girl in front of me started to befrightened near the end when it looked it was the end for the toys.I've talked to a few other people and they said that their smallchildren had similar reactions when they saw it for the first time. This makes me wonder if it was a little strong for children of ayounger age. No matter what though I enjoyed it whole heartly. And theend almost had me in tears. I was a young girl when the first one cameout so in many ways I grew up with those toys. So at the end it wasvery heartwarming and touching. Tears almost filled my eyes. I cantwait to see this one again.

In TS3, we come full circle to the biggest question of all: What does it mean not to feel outdated, or misunderstood, but truly useless? It's Waiting For Godot at Lego scale.

Play Time Comes Alive

For 16 years the Toy Story franchise has captivated a whole sleuth ofgenerations with two amazing films. In almost two decades, there havebeen millions of kids rushing back from their schools or quicklyopening their bedroom doors after they are gone to double check thattheir toys are not alive. Toy Story has stood the test of time and hasbecome one of the greatest children films of all time and spurned afantastic sequel. But how do you top that? Can Toy Story 3 make thisone of the most brilliant trilogies? Toy Story 3 sets off 11 years after Toy Story 2 with Andy, Woody andBuzz's owner, all grown up and heading for college. The Toy's fate liesin his hands; trash, attic or donated? After a series of bumblingmistakes, the Toys wind up heading for the seemingly perfect Day-carecentre, Sunnyside. Sunnyside is ruled by the lovable bear Lots-o.However, all is not what they seem and the toys suffer a terrifyingplay time with children way below the appropriate age. What seems likea dream quickly turns into a nightmare for the toys as they head thegreat escape. Pixar, by now, has learnt each trick into hooking the adults as well asthe children and not by turning to subtle dirty humour. What is sowonderful about Toy Story 3 is the experience of childhood that youremember or you are living right now. While we are introduced to somany new characters each one comes with its own quirk that is easilylovable and easily memorable. The quick fire lines don't just appeal toevery age; it makes them laugh and chortle. Ken, the doll who has nevermet a Barbie, is a wonderful inclusion to the Toy Story cast with hisvanity, self image but also having a big heart. The villain, withoutgiving anything away, is also reminiscent of Sid and Stinky Pete of theprevious films. Not only this but the action is every bit edge of yourseat entertainment that left the audience gasping and jumping at everymoment. I, for one, will never look at a baby doll in the same way.The most triumphant part of this piece of cinema is how yourheartstrings are tugged in each and every way. From the openingsequence to the credits, I have not wept so much in a movie since Up;another Pixar classic. The story and the sadness is told so beautifullythat it probably made a few people think twice about throwing away oldtoys or replacing those who are lost. I'm not saying that Toy Story 3 is without flaws. There are timeswatching where you feel like you had seen it all before with it'spredecessors and at some parts the film does becomes predictable. Butthat is where the classic Pixar genius enters giving enough twists tokeep you hooked on till the end. The Toy Store elite films are delightful and to dismiss them aschildren's films would be an outrage. I found more shock, love, terror, comedy and intrigue that most "art" and "sophisticated" films aremissing. The greatest trilogy of all time? It would be foolish for meto say. But this is definitely up in the big leagues and will last frominfinity and beyond.

guiarRK (27 April 2012)

A definite change in direction for Pixar, but fantastic nonetheless.

So I saw Toy Story 3 tonight at an early screening here in Houston, TX.A little background info about me. I am a big, no HUGE, Pixar fan, I'vewatched every film that they have created dozens of times. Let mebegin, this is definitely no Ratatouille, Wall-E, or Up. Pixar isdefinitely coming back to it's family roots and Toy Store 3 isextremely evident of that. Don't get me wrong, Pixar has completelyoutdone themselves once again offering a film that is extremelyentertaining, thrilling, and fresh, but it is kind of disappointingthat the film doesn't reach any true depth until the POWERFUL last act.I'm going to divide my review into several sections.Writing: The humor was straight up HILARIOUS. There were several scenesthat had the audience ROTFL'ing, even I, as crude and bitter I may bewhen it comes to comedy, was laughing out loud at a few parts. Howeversome jokes do fall flat into Dreamworks territory with potty humor(lincoln logs anyone?) which I hope does not become a recurrence, butoverall the film had some wonderful writing and dialogue creating atruly believable setting and tone.Animation: It's truly a shame that some of the later scenes in thefinal act haven't been shown in the commercials because, DAMN, thedetail is truly remarkable. Since this is a no spoiler review I won'tmove further into that but let me tell you now, you will be impressed.Humans are beginning to look more realistic with ton's of attention tomovement and the toys have benefited from some spackle in the facialdepartment in an attempt to create a more emotionally expressivecharacter. While it didn't blow me away like Finding Nemo and Wall-Edid when they released, the work done here by Pixar is truly solid andway above anything Dreamworks has brought to the table. The 3D is alsodecent, I'm not really buying into this whole fad because after a fewminutes you don't notice the effect. The added depth is nice but youhonestly won't be missing much if you watch it in a good qualitycineplex.Sound: The theater I went to had a pretty weak sound system so I can'treally comment on the effects but when it comes to voice talent, theactors truly shine. It was sad to see some characters go like Bo Beepand Squeaky but some of the new additions like Lotso and Ken, played byNed Beatty and Michael Keaton, are some true standouts thanks to theexcellent dialogue provided by the script. All the original charactersonce again do their job quite well and with the excellent editing andmixing, the dynamics of social interaction between the characters areexpressed clearly.Depth/Theme: You know I was going here and I HAD to talk about it.Ratatouille had the whole analysis of segregation with "Everyone cancook", Wall-E brought environmentalism, consumerism, capitalism, andmost importantly love to the table, while Up directly deals with deathand the emotions that stem from it. Toy Story 3 repeats the abandonmentand moving on angle from Toy Story 2 which is TRULY the film's weakestlink. Not because the movie copies the second films moral, but becauseTS3 virtually ignored these themes until the last act which I willadmit was quite compelling. It would have been nice to spread theseserious moments throughout the film to create a balanced equilibriumbut unfortunately this does not happen. However I do want to talk aboutthis pivotal juncture in the final act, there was a moment in the moviethat only last a minute or two, but felt very, very, very real. I can'tstress this enough, I have never felt anything like this from a movie. The first time I cried in a move was with Up's "Ellie" sequence but forsome reason I didn't do it here. My emotions went beyond crying, Idon't know if it was the swirling bright ember colors contrasting withthe stark images or the expressiveness of the toys in that very moment, but I sat there in disbelief and was affected in a way that has notexisted before.Overall: I really do wish that Lee Unkrich could have spread the last15 minutes throughout the movie but that didn't happen which is why Icould not give this movie a 10, however, that last act SAVED thismotion picture from being another run of the mill Dreamworks film.Aside from some of the lame toilet humor and disappointing directionchoices, Toy Story 3 is a very solid conclusion to one of the besttrilogies of all time that needs to experienced solely for the lastbeautifully gratifying act with the gang that I grew up with.

Not for sensitive children or very young ones

Although there were some funny parts in this film, I was terriblydisappointed. This movie was very scary for young children - and it wasexcessive. I can handle a scary scene here and there, but for youngchildren to endure half an hour of perilous scenes where the toys arealmost crushed, incinerated and the like is just too much. Probably themost disappointing part in the film, was the fact that Pixar has nowplaced the idea into the heads of millions of children, that one day amother might choose to not love their child anymore, and perhaps neverdid. Thanks for that one Pixar - brilliant move.It is very obvious that whoever developed the concept for this film andcarried out the writing of it was not interested in how it might affectyoung children - their target audience. I have been quite the fan ofPixar, but have lost trust in their film-making. I am sure my son willbe having nightmares. I wish we had never gone to see it, and if I hadknown it would be so far from the brilliant mark of the first two, Iwould not have.

"Wow" the only word i have to say about this film.

Now that "Wow" up there isn't a sarcastic one, or just a boredexpression, or one of those "Wows" that shows by your tone that youdon't care, that "Wow" is 'Amazing, genius, incredible, stupendous, fantastic, it's a lot of words in one, and that's what "Toy Story 3"is. "Toy Story 3" is "Wow" It's an all in one package. Let me start off, I was born the year "Toy Story" came out. So I didn'treally sit down and watch "Toy Story" until I'd say about 1st grade, in2001, and by that time "Toy Story 2" was out in DVD so I got them both, and I really liked them, I was one of those kids where, I'd watch themovie over and over until i knew the lines ha-ha. So now "Toy Story 3". This movie was "Wow" It just wowed me. I wastouched by how emotional this movie was, I mean for an hour and twentyminutes of the film you were exhilerated, laughing your butt off sohard, and you just felt very incredible by watching the old Toy gang ona new adventure, and the new toys felt like if they were in theprevious films as well, then the last 15 mins of the film, is justemotional, then the credits come with the extra footage, and that madeyou laugh and smile again. It's "Wow". There were adults crying, yes even guys were crying, my mom's boyfriendwas even crying, this movie has been the best of many films i have seenin my teenage years, pixar astonishing job on this film. "Wow."

(25 April 2012)

Scary scenes but no different than other classic famiy movies.

There are a curious amount of negative reviews of Toy Story 3, mainly due to some of its scarier scenes. Many comment on how it made their children cry or gave them nightmares. That is unfortunate and I feel for those parents, as I have also shown "family" movies to my kids and was surprised when scary scenes made them cry. But sad and/or scary scenes are not new to Disney movies or any other family movies. Remember the death of Bambi's Mom or the end of Old Yeller. Wizard of Oz is a classic family film but is filled with dark scary scenes.TS3 has some intense scenes that obviously have effected younger viewers. Some family movies are like that and always have been. Be thankful you have sensitive caring children and enjoy this movie.

Just amazing

After seeing Toy Story 1 and 2, they quickly became my favourite set offilms ever and just last year when i heard there was going to be a 3rd,my heart immediately sank. As with sequels before, i thought it wasgoing to be aimed at an entirely new audience, for the sake of profitand would squeeze the love i had for the series right out of it.Then i began to read about interviews and the plot line and how itcontinues from both previous films, with Andy just a child back then,he has now become a teenager ready for college. This got me a littleexcited and for the rest of the year building up to it i was lookingmore and more forward to it.Usually, walking out of cinema doors, i have a feeling of disgust anddisgrace having just watched an awful film for a high price. So, itwould have been safe to say my expectations for this film wereridiculously high, i mean there is not many series' of films that keepfollowers for 15 years. It felt like a mere 10 minutes that i had been in my seat when the filmfinished. I was on the verge of tears, had a huge smile on my face andalmost felt the need to jump up and clap. There are few films like thisout there, Toy Story 1 and 2 being the exceptions. It continued thestory so well, you still had the same love for the main characters thatyou always did.For a film aimed at children, it had an amazing plot, that neverconfused but always kept you guessing. It is perfect for all ages, whether old or young, it is a magical story. My only criticism would be at the lack of characters from previousfilms. It was explained immediately whether they had been sold or lostbut i really felt disappointed that some old favourites were missing.Still apart from that, the film was faultless. I recommend goingimmediately and watching it in 3D. Nothing really pops out in yourface, but it is made really well to fit 3d.
