its funny how the ratings for all the madeas movies are sooo low butthe movies are sooo funny.. i will tell you. madea is not foreveryone.. its either u love madea or u hate madea.. if you enjoy hismovies, you will enjoy all of them. honestly, i am Asian and i believea lot of the people who gave all the madea movies one star are probablyall or majority of them are white. excuse me not just white but racistwhite folks that probably got offended. if you look at the reviews, alot of them have 8, 9 or 10 stars but its the 1'z that bring the ratingbelow what it should be. i think the majority of the madeas movieswould range from at least 6 to 8 stars if it weren't for those thatrated it a 1 because they were offended.

How disappointing that people are so desperate to be entertained thatthey will go see Tyler Perry and Adam Sandler movies (not always forAdam) that are just plain worthless. Like numb pro sports fans who gosee their horrible teams which allows the team owners to make enoughmoney not to care if the team every actually gets good. If you stoppedgoing to see this crap then maybe Tyler would get the hint and get someserious opinions and help from people who care about makinginteresting, entertaining movies that are worth watching more thanonce. Actually I can't make it 5 minutes into his crappy movies and 1minute into his television shows which are the worst shows in history!!At least Sandler made some very funny movies and played a few seriousroles to give him some credibility. Lately, though, Adam has just plainstunk and worked for profit and apparently could not care less for hisfans, except the morons who go despite horrible reviews. Please stopgiving these two any more of your hard earned money and force them outof the business or into making better choices for scripts anddirectors.

Just watched this Tyler Perry/Madea movie with my mom. I thought withEugene Levy-who I've long liked since his "SCTV" days-this might be alittle more funnier considering I usually don't like Madea movies asthey tend to be too preachy for my tastes. There were some really goodstuff like almost anything involving Doris Roberts. I also liked TomArnold's brief appearance. Also, Madea's playing a woman named PreciousJackson got some good mileage out of the famous Jackson family.Otherwise, the movie was too long and was mostly pretty lame duringthat time. Still, it wasn't too bad like I said and besides, the moviewas harmless enough. P.S. Perhaps because of Denise Richards'supporting role here, Charlie Sheen is in the blooper reel during theend credits. Oh, and I was sooooo disappointed at Marla Gibbs too-briefappearance.

I joined IMDb just to write this review, because I saw the negative(albeit funny and somewhat true) reviews for this wonderful movie. Whatwere you expecting to see, people, Shakespeare??!! This is just a silly old movie not meant to be taken seriously. It mademe laugh hard on a day I needed to laugh. What more can you ask for?Even with bad acting (and some "good" acting, especially on Perry'spart), I still really enjoyed watching it and feeling silly along withAunt Madea. That's much more than you can say for most of the b.s. putout there. Anything that makes me or other people laugh is thumbs-up in my book.So just wait to rent it if you worry about wasting your money and don'texpect Aeschylus. Enjoy it like you would a free Three Stooges movie onYouTube and be silly.

This is another Tyler Perry movie that follows his best knowncharacter, Madea. It is a typical Madea/Tyler Perry movie, but unlike some of his othersmovies in this one Madea is the main character and not just one of thecharacters in the story. The movie has some funny moments, but is not as good as some of otherTyler Perry movies that he has done in the past. I am sure there arefans of his that will enjoy this movie, but i would rather watch one ofhis movies where Madea's character is just in the background and thereis a solid plot to the movie, this movie looks like it was put togetherover a weekend vacation.

I saw the movie last night, and was disappointed by Mr. Levy and Ms.Richards. They were not believable. I really tried to connect with thecharacters, but couldn't. I love Tyler Perry's movies and plays. I havebeen to one of his plays without Madea and still loved it. Mr. Levy isat his best with the "American Pie" movies, but this role was not forhim. Also, with Ms. Richards, she was too young for Mr. Levy's wife andwas never addressed. Ms. Richards acting wasn't very good, she overdidit A LOT. I am asking this with sincerity, Mr. Perry, do you getfeedback from your scripts or do you just have a lot of "yes men"around? It doesn't hurt to ask for assistance especially at your level. There were so many holes in the story line, it could have been so muchbetter. I'm worried about the next movie. I may wait to see it in thedollar theater.

This is quite possibly the best Madea movie to date. Madea has a lotmore screen time, making the movie better and funnier. There's hardlyany random subplot drama at all. It's a flat-out comedy starring Madeaand Eugene Levy. The jokes are hilarious and keep coming. Levy playsGeorge Needleman, a dorky businessman marked for death by a crimefamily after his company goes bankrupt and he is framed for moneylaundering. Brian Simmons takes the case and suggests the Needelemanfamily stay at Madea's house. (That's when all heck breaks loose as shetries to teach them love and respect) Will George and Madea be able tofind the money and give it back to the charities? I highly recommendMADEA'S WITNESS PROTECTION!!!

All the Madea moves are hilarious! I haven't laughed at a movie thismuch in a long time. EVERYBODY in the theater was laughing. Iconstantly looked around and I didn't see anybody not at least smiling. In these people in the reviews are saying they walked out (which Idon't believe they did, you never ACTUALLY see anyone do that) and thatno one was laughing. No, no, no, no, no! People were laughing I am 100%sure. Those reviewers just weren't laughing. I've never met anybody whodoesn't like the Madea movies. They are one of those moves that youjust can't help but laugh. The only reason I don't get the movie a 10,is because it was just about as funny as the other Madea movies (Iexpected it to be somewhat funnier, though it was still HILARIOUS), andthe story didn't flow so well at a couple parts. But I am a critic, believe me, I will pick apart movies, and give low ratings and reviewsto movies that are terrible. But I actually am giving Madea's WitnessProtection a 9! Go see it. You won't be wasting your money. And if forsome crazy reason you hate it, at least you'll know for the next Madeamovie. You'd be crazy not to like it though. And have no sense of humorif you don't laugh. I'm sorry but if you don't like this movie at leasta little, or don't laugh at least once, you are very very very veryweird.
Austin Jackson (19 April 2013)
People make this movie seem like it's the worst thing ever created.Sure, it wasn't all the "good". Although, a lot of reviews make thisseem there isn't any comical value at all. There weren't very manypart, but just enough to keep me watching, granted there a manyproblems with this movie, and I am not a huge fan of Tyler Perry'smovies, but there were a few one liners that made me laugh, forexample. "Betty Boop done Drooped." I actually laughed when that linewas said. If you're a fan of Tyler Perry's movies, then give this a go.If not, if you need a cheap laugh or two, give it a go. I can assureyou it's no where near as bad as people say. I give this movie a 4 outof 10.

I'm not a Medea fan so I expected very little out of this movie. Mywife is a fan, so I had to go. I got even less out of this movie. Thecomedy produced a few chuckles. The plot was so full of holes. Yes, Iknow it's a comedy and I shouldn't expect it to teach me how a fraudinvestigation would work but these holes are too big to ignore. Why isthe Atlanta District Attorney involved in a federal investigation intoa multinational corporation? The scary mob family NEVER shows up in the movie. The climax, Medeagoing to the bank and transferring money into twelve accounts forreasons unknown, took two minutes and was so anti-climatic. For thelife of me, I still can't figure out why it had to be done much lesshow. If you're a Medea fan, maybe you should save your $10 ticket moneyand just watch Tyler Perry's act on TV.
KidFresh48 (18 April 2013)
I laughed twice throughout the entire movie, and once was at thebloopers. To say this movie is bad is an understatement. To those thatreviewed it 10/10, what does a 5/10 look like to you? Or a 1/10?! Offthe charts funny? I bet you said the same thing about "Jack and Jill".How many fart/genitalia/overused jokes can they cram into one movie youask? Oh just plenty. I'm only going to spoil one specific scene (eventhough the plot is transparent from the start) SPOILER: There's a scenewhere Madea goes to fly and has to go through TSA screening. Not onlydo they send her through the X-ray machine AND Full body scanner, theysexually grope her as well. Now as half the theater erupted in laughterI wondered..."Why do these people laugh? Am I missing the joke?" It'salmost like people go to the movies today and FORCE themselves to laughat anything that maybe perceived as a joke. I wish moviegoers wouldtake a stand and force Hollywood to improve the quality of moviesinstead of just allowing them to keep churning out the same oldrecycled trash. If you're still reading at this point, take a hint andavoid this movie, even if someone else buys your ticket.

Eugene Levy is such a gifted actor, with an ability to play confused, quirky, and lovable in a very earnest way. Here, he is subjected to thelowest common denominator of humor. I am aware that work in Hollywoodnow is greatly limited, and it's a "take what you can get" kind ofworld. I don't blame Levy for experimenting, but I can blame him forpicking a film that is doomed from the start.Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection is yet another entry in theongoing saga of the gargantuan grandmother who talks fast and threatensviolence every few minutes, Madea. The character was made famousbecause of Perry's many plays, before making a theatrical film in 2005called Diary of a Mad Black Woman, based off one of those very plays. The film, seen by me not too long ago, is a very faint memory. Itwasn't a wretched experience, but an inconsistent one, merging thegenres of slapstick, melodrama, and spirituality in a loose and poormanner, generating nothing but a tonal cacophony of unfitting parts.Perry would then go on to do five other films focusing on this "Madea"character, along with doing other films about black families and theirstruggle to cope with life. I've avoided many of his films for thereason that I am not in total agreement with everything he does. Heportrays women to be totally reliant on their males, and ratherpower-hungry and venomous when something doesn't go their way. This isgreatly demonstrated in Diary of a Mad Black Women. I too believe thatin order to fully enjoy his films, one must have a person like hisprotagonists to relate to, and I, for one, have not yet found acharacter I can connect with in any of his movies.Madea's Witness Protection, his most recent picture, is an odiousmiscalculation in every sense. An affront to every genre of slapstickhumor and rambunctious comedy that there is. Structuring itself out ofcorruption and heist plot odds and ends, the film centers around GeorgeNeedleman (Eugene Levy) and his family, as they are forced to partakein a witness protection program and stay at good ol' Madea's house, after they discover that the company George long worked for was caughtup in a Ponzi-scheme right under his nose.Tyler Perry plays three characters in the picture; the grandmother, herbrother, Joe, and Brian, who assists George in getting prepared for apossible trial. I must say that Tyler Perry seems to be the onlycapable actor in this picture, while everyone carries the blatantlydistracting motivation of getting the money for their roles.Another reason I'm not particularly fond of Perry films is hisconstant, shallow stereotyping of the black community. Madea's WitnessProtection is no change of style. By incorporating a stereotypicalwhite family, Perry has successfully generated more jokes based on racethan I ever thought possible. He shorthands all of his characters, regardless of color, and gives them the shallowness neither side needs.I've said it before and I'll say it again; when it comes to blackfilmmakers, Perry is on the lower-end of the ladder for this exactreason. The acting is almost unanimously wooden and careless from all itssubjects. Denise Richards plays George's wife in a very vague role, poor Doris Roberts is George's mother, who is unbelievably senile, andthe kids are the bratty teenage daughter and the innocent son caught inthe camaraderie of their father's unfortunate mishap. And if you'regoing to make a film showcasing goofy white people, one must not forgetto call up Tom Arnold, who is given a cameo in the picture as well. One of the most distasteful, unfunny sequences is when the Joecharacter, an already unnecessary addition to a film filled with somany meaningless caricatures, is giving George an on the spotinterview, asking inappropriate questions like, "what size butt heprefers?" If you giggled at that, you're obviously in the targetaudience for this picture. This is my fifth one star review of the year. Not to mention, I havenot given a single film that has been released this year a perfect fourstars. Have I grown more cynical this year, or has the film industryhit a considerable slump? All I can say is that Madea's WitnessProtection, an aggressively unfunny, miserably stale film, that isbeyond ideal, sufficient length, has provided me with more hope for oneof those reasons than the other.Starring: Tyler Perry, Eugene Levy, Denise Richards, Romeo Miller,Doris Roberts, and Marla Gibbs. Directed by: Tyler Perry.

I tried, honestly I tried. I went along with a friend who loves Tyler.I sat and watched and from the opening credits it was clear that thesefilms are an exercise in masturbating the enormous ego of Mr Perry.Either that or he really cannot get anyone to help him make thisdrivel.Tyler Perry by Tyler Perry, filmed by Tyler Perry, starring TylerPerry. See what I mean. Everything about this theft of our time andcash is abysmal. The wafer then plot, the crass lines delivered withoutsympathy or fun. The non comedy, the frankly racist stereotyping.I gave it a full 15 minutes before walking out. As I did so I willadmit that some in the audience were laughing. I suppose that his humormust appeal to some in the same way that some people laugh at someoneslipping on a banana skin.Save your money and watch paint dry, its more entertaining.

I was dragged to this film by a friend. I stayed optimistic as I am forevery movie because he said it would be hilarious. He could not be anymore wrong. Though the whole theater was rolling in laughter, I was notliking the humor. If you have seen another Madea movie, don't see thisone. It is practically the same as the other movies, leaving TylerPerry with loads of money to show for his poor creativity. When willthe nightmare end that is Madea. There were some scenes in the moviethat made me chuckle to myself, but only that. When I go to a comedy, Iwant to be rolling on the floor laughing too. This did not satisfy meand I highly recommend you do not see it.

After reading the other user reviews here on IMDb, I had lowexpectations walking into the theater today.... Did we watch the samemovie?!The movie starts out slow and beats a few jokes to death with excessivesarcasm and a convoluted concocted storyline. Definitely a filmdirected towards a non-white audience; it busted on all the whitestereotypes, particularly the 'greedy wall street banker' and'obliviously ignorant racist' ones. In a theater of 75 people, I wasthe only white person - awesome! I have no problem laughing at myselfand knew it was going to be a fun movie with an interactive audience -and I was not disappointed :-)With the previous Madea movies, the story tends to be more of aromance/drama, with Madea thrown in for some comic relief and wisdom. Iwas pleased to see that this was intended to be a straight-up comedy. Some parts of the movie flow more smoothly than others, the jokes arenothing new, and the story line is nothing ground-breaking, but itsucceeds in pulling off a lot of slapstick humor... ultimately araucous comedy that the crowd was hooting, hollering and giving heartylaughter. Like most things in NYC, the people are half the fun - beingthe only whitey in the room made it all the more authentic :-)If you're looking for a thought-provoking, nuanced, 'fresh' movie, thisisn't it. If you're looking for some good laughs and 2 hours ofentertainment, come and see it!Stay for the outtakes at the end credits - they are some of thefunniest scenes :-)

I have seen all of Tyler's movies and this for sure this is the WORSE!From the first 5 minutes, I knew it was going to be bad. My daughterwho was my movie date (17yrs old) leaned over within the first fewminutes of the movie said "I have a bad feeling about this one". Theacting, filming, directing and storyline were all HORRIBLE. I washoping that it would get better, but it got worse. I decided to closemy eyes and take a nap and wake up from this nightmare of a movie. Butwhen I woke up, the movie was still going and it was just as bad atwhere I had left off. Please.....save your money. I walked outsaying....what a waste of money and time. What a shame!!!

This is my first review of any movie on IMDb. I hate that it is anegative one and also that it on one of Mr. Tyler Perry's films. However, from the beginning of the movie until the end, I wasdisappointed. I usually like Mr. Perry's films, but this one I justcouldn't get into. Some of his movies do not flow well and this one didnot either. Mr. Perry seems to take ideas from other movies and attemptto use others imagination instead of utilizing the more of hisimagination and the imagination of a team. I support Mr. Perry and willprobably continue to do so. However, I truly hope that his films getbetter than this one.

I must say reading some of the reviews before going to watch thismovie, made watching more fun. People who put Tyler Perry down areright out of it! He is awesome and if you expected to see somethinglike a Few good men, then you should not be allowed to comment. Thismovie is just insane, I love it. When I go to a movie I want to seeexactly what I am going to see... This movie had it all. If I wanted togo to driving school I would expect cars and tests. If I go bowling Iguess I would see special shoes 5/10 pin bowling balls and pins... Whatwere you actually waiting to see? I love Madea, this is what I wait forin the movie, I appreciate the seriousness that is in the Madea movies, though I want to see Madea. If you never enjoyed Madea goes to jail orthis movie, then you should stop watching these movies. I read thereviews, watched the trailers and yes I got exactly what I wanted tosee, wish the movie was 2 hours longer. In this world, we have to findwhats funny, cause everything else is pretty screwed up and after 30+years in the forces, I am pretty sure I know what funny is! Madea givesme the type of humour I thrive on, she is so believable and cannot getenough of her. Thank-you, Jim.....

It seems as if Perry was trying to gain some crossover appeal bycentering this film on a white family, and judging from the reactionsfrom all the white people in the theater (yes, mostly white people wentto see this), it seems as if he succeeded, but the film itself is stillthe same film Perry has been making for awhile. It's over the top, hasridiculous humor, and there are stereotypes aplenty, but who honestlyexpected anything else? It's also filled to the brim with flaws andplot holes, such as Madea and the family never actually gettingattacked by the mobsters who are supposed to be trying to kill GeorgeNeedleman (Eugene Levy). Also, how the hell are we supposed to believethat Kate (Denise Richards) is happily married to George and that theyhave a nearly perfect relationship. They're years and years apart inage and Kate seems like she would be the type of woman who's only withGeorge for the money, but the movie never even hints at it, making ittoo much of a fantasy. There are a couple of scenes I chuckled at, mainly due to theaudience's reactions, and I would be lying if I didn't say that thisvery odd film amused me in certain parts, but it just has way too manyproblems to be a legitimately good comedy. Most of the gags and jokesare wince-inducing and go on for way too long (the entire airportscene, for example). Also, the religious sub-plot didn't add anythingto the story and just seemed to slow the movie down. Also, most of theactors seemed to only be there for the paycheck instead of actuallyputting forth any genuine effort, including Perry. Perry's writing hasslightly improved since his last Madea effort, but he still has a longway to go to be able to make a complete film worthy of everyone's time.I said in my review for "Madea's Big Happy Family" that it was his mostaccessible film to date, but now that title belongs to "Madea's WitnessProtection". It's not a film I can recommend, but if I had to recommendone Madea movie to someone who's interested in seeing one, this is it,and mainly because it has more appeal than the others. Just don't takeit too seriously or you might wind up despising it.Perry actually had some potential to make a funny and fun film, but heblew it, and thus, the film feels incomplete and rushed, especiallytowards the end. During the stick-up scene in the beginning of thefilm, followed by the chaotic car scene, I almost expected astraight-up action comedy, but like I said earlier, the movie nevereven follows up on its dangerous plot point involving the mobsters.Even certain scenes that are supposed to have a big payoff (the bitchyteenager's comeuppace, for example) feel anti-climatic. Perry got lazyand just made the same type of comedy he usually does, except with afew more amusing scenes and elements than usual. It actually feels toomuch like "Bringing Down the House" (also starring Eugene Levy) and"Big Mommas House 2" at times, so if Perry was truly trying to gainsome crossover appeal, the desperation shows because he couldn't comeup with anything new to make his interracial comedy stand out from theothers. Those who already hate Perry will likely hate this film, but his fansseem to be impressed with anything he puts out, so I sincerely doubtthis will be the last we see of Madea, regardless of how much Perrywants to finally get rid of the character. I suppose it doesn't matterhow fair I am to the film because tons of people are going to rate itunfairly without seeing it anyway, but that's IMDb for you.
